I think the writers, who live in LA, were really shaken up by what happened to Nicole Brown. If you read the graphic novel, Carol is just someone shattered by the apocalypse. I also think if we get "Tales from The Walking Dead" they'll show Daryl used to deliver crystal meth on his motorcycle for Merle.
