You're 100% right. We were spoiled growing up with this music. There are still good songs here and there today, but just the volume of good tunes that got released week after week, year after year back in the day... You can understand how we feel.

They carved out a good chunk of the 70s/80s musical landscape for themselves while hard rock and new wave was everywhere they just hung back and ruled easy listening.

They're great song writers. "One on One" and "Sara Smile" are probably the most soulful tracks they have. "I Can't Go for That" is also worth a reaction. It's interesting. It came out a year before Michael Jackson wrote "Billie Jean" and you can tell how the intro to "Billie Jean" was inspired by it. MJ didn't rip it off, I'm not saying that, but you can tell these guys were one of his influences.
@MRoyClark
@MRoyClark 3 жыл бұрын
According to Daryl Hall, Michael Jackson approached him during the shooting of the video of "We Are the World" and playfully apologized for stealing the beat from "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" when he was writing "Bille Jean". There was no malice beforehand and no animosity afterward. Just two artists admiring each others' work.

I want you to know that H&O came out of the Philly sounds of the 60's..Their influences were black artists from that area, 'cause they were raised there..Back in the day you had The NY sound with interchangeable parts, led by King Curtis. Then you had the west coast LA sound of the Wrecking Crew, and Phil Spector's Wall of sound..Down south you had Muscle Shoals in Alabama. You had the Nashville A Team. Then you had Stax records out of Memphis...And, of course, you had Motown, and the Funk Bros....What was great about all that was how there was no color line in music...Not as far as the listener was concerned, anyway..Yes, you had preferences along cultural lines, but once the music was out there and heard those lines faded quickly...It was a time in music that will never come again..I'll never forget it..Never!

One of my favorite's of theirs is from 1981 "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" but a few really good songs of theirs that I haven't seen too many reactions to are: Your Kiss Is On My List (Official video 1980), Say It Isn't So (Official HD video 1983), Your Imagination (Official video 1981), Wait For Me (Live Stereo Montreal Forum 1983), One On One (Official video 1982), Possession Obsession (Official video 1984), You've Lost That Loving Feeling (1980 Cover of The Righteous Brothers 1965 song - Official video), and Method Of Modern Love (Official video 1984).

You're 100% correct, older music like this has more depth and required more artistic skill then modern day music. The style and genres of yesteryear are a lot more solid then what we've got now as a whole. My next suggestion is going to be Tears for Fears, either "Head Over Heels", "Mad World" or "Sowing the seeds of love".

I just came across your channel and I give you 1000% percent respect. Because you speak the truth. Like you said there’s some good music today but they really don’t make music like they used to. And what I can’t stand is all the profanity and nastiness in music today. Why do they Gotta do that? I’ll tell you why because I can’t sing and play instruments. And they just want to get clicks views hits whatever. Let me tell you one thing about growing up in the late 70s and early 80s it was cool. There was no Internet there was no cable TV there was some cable in the mid to late 80s but before that GuessWhat everyone for the most part watch the same television shows adults and kids alike. They all sit in front of the TV together. And the next day at work and school everyone was talking about the same thing. And I think that’s one reason these reaction videos are so popular at least for me is because I feel like I’m watching them with other people and I don’t feel like I’m just isolated, like I am sitting home with my headphones on by myself watching videos. Keep up the good work keep speaking the truth.

Music today (most, not all) has no anime. No real texture. Record companies manufacture over-produced songs filled with hooks but not a lot of substance. Again, not all, but A LOT of what you hear on the radio. - Oh well. It'll come around again.

Hall & Oat has more than 2 songs you just touch on you like is only the tip of hits & great songs they had. If you herd the word Philly sound or Philly soul Hall & Oats were a part of it. They were put in the catagory called blue eye soul. Like A.W.B., Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan & others.

Great reaction..... Anyone in there early 20’s should take the time and discover Hall & Oates there catalog is simply fantastic and a bit overlooked (by some people) The music industry in of itself is super broken in America (There are solid artist out there but, they don’t play the Studio/Label game) Artist/Singers in non USA region seem to actually be so much better in terms of quality and staying power (Music now is just very fake it’s pushing a single or a image not much substance imo!
