English:
Castrop-Rauxel is a large district town in the district of Recklinghausen in the administrative district of Münster.
Castrop name meaning: The basic word "trop" which designates a group settlement. The modifier "Cast" is difficult to explain, some associate it with the personal name Karl, others with the Old German word "kasto" (like box), meaning barn. storage means.
Rauxel Name meaning: Here you have to go back to the oldest spelling of the name "Roukessele" Rouk, the extinct word for crow and the syllable "sel or sele" a damp, moory meadow. Thus Rauxel is the name for "Krähenwiese"
The name corresponded to the location of the place, the seat of the knight Cesorius de Roukessele (1266)
It all started with two Roman roads that crossed there and a military camp was set up by the Romans. On the site of the later Erin colliery there was a Germanic settlement from the 1st to the 5th century AD, which had close economic ties to the Roman Empire. Later, Charlemagne used the roads for the Saxon wars and set up supply camps and imperial courts there. The imperial courts developed localities, here Castorp (village at the warehouse) was renamed to Castrop.
The Villa Castrop was first mentioned in a document in 834.
In 1484, Duke Johann II von Cleve issued the citizens of Castrop with a letter of liberty, recognizing their place as a town under the town (also called "freedom")
In 1830 a post office was opened.
In 1847 Castrop received a train station with the completion of the Cologne-Minden railway
In 1867, the first hard coal mine (Erin colliery) started production.
In 1902 the town of Castrop was formed from the titular town of Castrop and two other communities
In 1926 the town of Castrop-Rauxel was formed from parts of the town of Castrop and the Amt of Rauxel.
During the air war, Castrop-Rauxel was the target of five major Allied air raids on the Ruhr area and 30 times smaller attacks.
Castrop-Rauxel was heavily influenced by mining in the 19th and 20th centuries. Zeche Erin, Count Schwerin, Ickern and Victor. The closure of the Erin colliery in 1983 meant the end of mining in Castrop-Rauxel.
Thanks for Thumbs Up
