Hi, here we have a faulty NEXTBASE 112 Go Dash Camera which was sent in by John and has a no display fault. Can it be fixed?
Also in the middle of this video I do a quick revisit on my yellowed Nintendo Entertainment System which was used to fix the NES that had numerous faults. Chips have been sent in by Dan from ‪@NewRetroRepair‬ and also Duncan from Duncan's Deals.
Merch is here!!!!! www.puddlt.com...
If you have an interesting 'non returnable' item for a 'trying to fix' video then my PO box is as follows. Please only use if you are from the UK and using Royal Mail.
PO Box 2597
WATFORD
WD18 1HT
UK
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.

🐨 Not sure but @ 35:19 I observed what may seem and I stress "SEEM" to be a fault if one is not aware of Power protection IC's and what triggers them "see pin 3 SHDN", Anyway when yo pulled out the SD Card while the Unit was operating I am pretty sure the entire unit's Power rails were momentarily grounded "A reason why it's recommended to have the Unit off "Unless prompted it is safe to insert an SD card while it's put into a safe mode", Which BTW such insertion at the wrong time can trigger that replacement chip into protection mode, by one of the IC pins going out of a specific voltage range ergo the IC will shut down the power and as long as power is fed to the rails that IC's pin will be held in a shutdown state "This state can also be possible with a bad or low battery", only way to reinstate normal operation is if ALL power is removed Eg: both the USB and battery, mind you I am only doing an educated guess here prompted by the IC's 3rd pin which is a "SHDN" Pin, of course it may just be a fault in the SD card slot. Only way to get to that seemingly faulty state is to Insert a SD card into both units and then power both the Units on and then remove the SD Cards while they are on, Pretty sure both should shut down and remain shut down until both the battery and the USB power supply has been removed, if you test this and I am wrong then I would like to know, of course if I am right this ole Aspie would like to know as will many many other people who are ignorant as to why it's good practice to ensure there is no power in a unit while removing and inserting Media Cards.. APU I dropped a 👉👍👈

Vince, your videos inspired me to fix a computer keyboard that was faulty. Normally I would have tossed it in the garbage and spent $20 on a new one but you gave me the confidence to take it apart and see what I could do. Well, I fixed it! The problem was a faulty connection with the zebra connector between the circuit board and the keyboard receptor thing. I cleaned it up with IPA and wedged a piece of cardboard in to increase the amount of pressure on the connector and it works like a charm! Thanks for the entertainment and the inspiration! You’re a legend!

Knowing (or just guessing) what regulated voltage the camera expected to see would be the clue here. The dropout voltage down to the 1V would have been a red flag. When I suspect a regulator, I vary the load & temperature to see if it partially works and/or post inject a bench supply to see if the load works/or is drawing excessive current (regulators often have fold over circuits built in) Funny how my soldering irons are so much smaller than yours....you have great skill with that one! Great fix Vince!

I gave up buying anything from CEX years ago. Think everything i bought went back due to faults. Ironically they will swear blind that it was never faulty when they sold it so thank christ for UK selling laws. I wouldn't even buy a 3 pin plug from them these days, they can't be trusted most of the time.

I took on my sons 512w cam on as it kept shutting down (after covid lockdown ) I bought him a new one as he was traveling 160 miles a day and needed a dash cam for the M25. Anyway, 2 years on, new LiPo battery and the old 512 still works. I guess a good few Nextbase dashcams were binned due to the battieries going zero as our cars sat idle.

Nextbase is such a dreadful brand. I have spoken with a guy who installs dashcams (and mine), he pretty much said about 50% of Nextbase cameras fail within guarantee and are returned to the manufacturer. From that point, who knows if they refurb and resell old new gear...

Without swapping parts, you check the integrity of the parts, that is why you'll have to know how different parts work. Those chips wrapped in plastic nylon may be very well killed by static electricity, that is not how you pack and send bare electronic parts, especially CMOS chips will die like that, they must be in anti-static bag, not wrapped in anything to prevent electrostatic discharge on their sensitive capacitive MOSFET inputs. The caps are not always connected to ground, you should proper measure them for short between their two legs.
@supercomputing942
@supercomputing942 2 жыл бұрын
Yes capacitors are not always connected to ground, often they are connected in series with other components also. Must always check between the 2 points of the cap.

I'm still working on a review on one of them HDMI retro game sticks, came with two excellent wireless SNES type controllers that are above the normal Chinese quality and this thing has 900+ games already included but you can dump as many roms in as the 32gb SD card can hold. The controllers are very similar to the 8bitdo ones and no creaking plastics or tappity buttons.

VINCE!!!!!! That voltage regulator soldering was painful to watch. You obviously have watched Alex from Northridgefix because you do and say some of the thing he says and does, but you didn't use flux! The most important thing when soldering/desoldering. For FLUX safe man you have to use flux and plenty of it.

Hi Vince, I don't have much experience with a voltage regulator myself, but I do have experience with a voltage boost circuit that doesn't work, sometimes when you apply heat to the chip it suddenly seems to work and later it doesn't so I would replace that faulty voltage regulator because it will stop working again in the future. Nice video btw dashcam and Nintendo in one! (sorry i had not watched the very end of the video) Note: With a booster chip you always have to be very careful with heat supply to it, because otherwise it will break quickly, I have many that have broken and they give variable voltages, due to the overheating. Cheers ;)

Nice fixes, both the dashcam and Nintendo :) About ten years ago or so I was inspired to buy some mini "spy" videocameras, after watching some reviews from Techmoan's channel. Had to do quite a lot of fixes and adjustments to some of them, before they were even somewhat usable. For example few cameras had fuzzy image, needed to adjust the focus, one camera showed black screen, because the lens assembly had detached from it's case, pressed it back together and it was fine. One dashcam didn't even have threads for the suction cup part, so had to "MacGyver" there another solution, etc. :D Stopped bying them really quickly. I still have almost all of them, but haven't used them in many years anymore.

Hi, Vince. Great video! I’m a bit late to the party and only recently discovered your channel. Currently working my way through it 😀 I had the exact same garbled image on my nes which was fixed by replacing the connector. Have you tried replacing the 72 pin connector that the game cartridge plugs in to? Even though the pins rang out fine on the original 72 pin connector. A new one fixed it. EBay £12 or so. Like you, I changed the RAM chips etc but ended up with the same garbled image upon game load. You may have already sorted it by now. If so, I haven’t gotten as far as that through your videos just yet so forgive me. Thought it was worth a mention just in case. Again, great video! I’ve picked up some good tips from your content 👍

I was about 11 years old and my parent had an old clock radie that stopped working. I asked if I could take it apart. I was probing around inside it with a welding rod, however, I neglected to disconnect the radio from mains power. Well I scared myself when I shorted something out. I put the radio back together and low and behold the radio started working. I don't recall how long after that my parents continued using the radio.

I found it strange how it worked with the sd card in then you took it out and it went back to having the fault. I was thinking bent or snapped pin in sd slot dragging the voltage down or showing a fault and shutting down, hence the sd error. Did it get fixed in the end? Don’t remember seeing it?

I have 2 NES, both are exactly the same as yours, they have both been stripped and thoroughly cleaned but will only load a game if the cartridge is only just in enough to push down, basically scraping as they go down, tried bending the contacts and everything but nothing helps, I think at this point the blinking light win mod may be my only option.
