I always had a vision in mind of how a good Wonder Woman movie should go, and this came incredibly close to it, giving badly-needed attention to the member of the DC 'trinity' who keeps getting snubbed in favor of Batman and Superman. Gal Gadot was excellent. Just wish there were more successful follow-ups after this one, maybe a 'Themyscira' animated or live-action series. Remember that Wonder Woman was created in a time where female comic book superheroes didn't exist. Much like Superman, she was the first, the template for everything that followed.

Comic books superheroes had only just been invented a few years earlier. And there weren't very many in print by the time Wonder Woman was created in 1941. However, Fantomah, who was a jungle heroine with magic powers, debuted in 1940. But Fantomah never caught on, lasting just a few years. Wonder Woman though, had the backing of a more successful publisher - and was the creation of a celebrity scientist - which gave her a big advantage in attracting an audience. DC also had Ma Hunkel (debuted as Ma Hunkel in 1930, became Red Tornado in 1940). But Red Tornado was a superhero parody. There were only a few pulp-era headline heroines such as Domino Lady (1936, a masked detective) and Olga Mermer (1937, half-Venusian with superstrength and x-ray vision), but they were minor players in the pulps compared to The Shadow, Doc Savage, The Spider, Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, etc.

@@flatebo1 To my understanding, they didn't want to portray Robin on the frontline of the war, as he was under the age to enlist. Batman didn't go because he was always with Robin, so the pair naturally became the anti espionage unit on the home front. That's just what I've read from the book.

Dasha was definitely right about one thing. She did not have to lose her femininity in order to be strong, that just pushed her over the top into, pretty much, perfection. That is why she is called "Wonder Woman." A woman should be feminine, and just because she is feminine, does not mean she is weak, and definitely does not mean she cannot be both feminine and strong.

Nobody wants to sit through a 2-and-a-half-hour movie and be lectured about how bad things are for women and how great they are. That's the exact reason the second one sucked. People want to see action, emotional development, and in some instances comedy. Hey, Dasha! This movie was sensational! Not only that, it is one of the best superhero films ever made! It's right up there with the '78 "Superman", "The Dark Knight", "Into the Spider-verse", "X-Men: Days of Future Past", "Captain America: Civil War" and "Watchmen". It is also as culturally significant for women as "Black Panther" was for African-Americans. DC stands for 'Detective Comics', the original magazine in the '30's that published Batman's adventures starting in 1939. It was also the name of the publishing company. Under their imprint was 'Action Comics' which printed Superman's adventures beginning in 1938. Both titles are still published today and are the longest running titles in the industry. Marvel Comics and the Marvel Universe were co-created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1961. Wonder Woman has NO ANALOG at Marvel and is a UNIQUE creation by Professor William Moulton Marston. She is a combination of Thor and Captain America, if parallels have to be drawn, except her godly roots are derived from Greco-Roman mythology rather than Norse mythology. The Justice League is basically a modern version of the Greco-Roman pantheon with Superman as Apollo, Batman as Hades/Pluto, Wonder Woman as Athena/Minerva, Aquaman as Poseidon/Neptune, Flash as Hermes/Mercury, Green Lantern as Hephaestus/Vulcan, Hawkman as Ares/Mars and Martian Manhunter as Zeus/Jupiter. Gadot was born to play Diana and is entrancing in the role. Pine is a perfect foil and the duo have sizzling chemistry. Themiscyra is so lush and bright. The production, the action, the costumes, the cast, the fish-out-of-water comedy, the twist, the message are all excellent. The No-Man's-Land sequence never fails to give me chills and gets the little hairs on the back of the neck to stand at attention! I love Diana's guitar solo! It became her signature theme. "Wonder Woman 1984" is a huge step-down from this movie, has a Swiss cheese plot and no continuity with the rest of DC's films. It is an awful trainwreck! There are four thrilling sequences, Pine and Gadot are magic together, and Gal owns the role but the screenplay is terrible. Patty Jenkins directed the hell out of the this movie but she wrote the abysmal sequel which betrays established continuity, the source material and common sense. I don't even consider it part of the DCEU! Zack Snyder co-plotted the original and comic book writer Allan Heinberg wrote the screenplay. Being a great director doesn't mean you can write as George Lucas well knows. Check out the incredible biopic "Professor Marston and his Wonder Women" about Wonder Woman's creator Professor William Moulton Marston. Not only did he invent the lie detector but he was a devoted polygamist and avid practitioner of bondage! You'll never see the lasso of truth in quite the same way again! The chronological order of DCEU movies can include "Joker" and the Nolan Batman trilogy without contradicting continuity. Exclude the awful "Wonder Woman 1984". Warner Bros. stopped trying to connect everything after "Birds of Prey". The framing scenes of "Wonder Woman" set in the present occur chronologically after "Batman vs. Superman: Ultimate Edition". DCEU TIMELINE: Wonder Woman (Joker) (Nolan Batman Trilogy) Man of Steel Batman vs. Superman: Ultimate Edition ["Wonder Woman" framing scenes] Suicide Squad Justice League: Snyder Cut Aquaman Shazam Birds of Prey

The original Wonder Woman was created in 1941 during World War II. She was the Amazon princess who was called to fight in the war against the nazis as an immortal goddess from Greek mythology who was raised on the 'paradise' island of Themyscira. After American fighter pilot Steve Trevor crashed near the island, Diana was tasked to return him home and assumed the role of Wonder Woman to join in the fight against the Axis powers. She became a member of the US military as Diana Prince. Several versions of Wonder Woman were created over the decades... she was given an invisible airplane... she was made nearly as strong as Superman. In the 70's, Wonder Woman became a hit TV series w/ Linda Carter assuming the role of Wonder Woman... she was given the powers to also assume various roles. In the 80's, a new Wonder Woman in the comics was launched where she was an embassador of Themyscira on a mission of peace by the Amazons. Later, the Amazons are revealed to be the guardians of Earth against the New Gods, who are aliens led by the tyrannical ruler Darkseid from the planet Apokolips. Wonder Woman also kissed Batman once before they were wiped out from existence in a storyline (they were brought back)... In the 2000's, a new Wonder Woman emerged and she became romantically involved w/ the new Superman. This time, she was Queen of the Amazons. Currently, DC comics has called her part of their 'trinity' of Super-heroes - Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

Fun facta. Gal Gadot studied Dance as a child She was allowed to delay her entry into the Israel defense forces (which is mandatory for all Israelis at age 18) for two years because she won the Miss Israel Heather pageant and therefore had to compete in the Miss Universe Pageant. When she entered the IDf she became a combat fitness instructor. This combined with her childhood background in dance really shines in this film as she is able to make the movement of a super powered demigod look naturall.

Depending on the era of comics you read: Wonder Woman's powers were granted by various "Gods of Mt. Olympus" in different forms. But, basically, she has the strength 2nd to Superman. Enhanced senses (sight, hearing, taste, small, feel). Empathic/Telepathic connection to animals. Wisdom (genius level), Military training/tactics and diplomacy (From Athena), Super-human speed, reflexes, agility and dexterity (even ability to copy movement and voices for short periods of time), bullet-proof shield, sword, bracelets, tiara and (depending on writer) skin. Although explosives and gases can either slow her down or momentarily incapacitate her. Mercy and sense of "justice" (From Themis, the figure with the scales and blindfold you see as representing courts of law). And love/beauty of Aphrodite, or more accurately her "love" is deemed more as a motherly love for human kind as a whole, not necessarily for one person. (Although her romantic partners has been extremely loyal, they aren't always long-lasting partners. So, while in a relationship she is considered "devoted" to that person as far as a partner, but can easily accept breaking that relationship if there is a reason for it.) Super healing, or rather rapid healing. (Can't recall a story that would involved regeneration like Wolverine, but still somewhat close for "typical wounds") Her "weaknesses" (Originally) were due to the personal, uh... fetishes, history of the original creator. Meaning that if she is "tied" by the Lasso of Truth she loses her powers. If she is "bound" by her own bracelets BY A MALE, she looses her powers. While a bit "naive" and "innocent" in some regards, she can be easily manipulated when appealing to her affections. (This is often viewed more as being a little slow on deception from romantic partners more than anything else) And she can be somewhat "incapable" of seeing fault in romantic interests. (Again, this was due to the original creator having some rather "odd views" on women and sexuality in general.) Her "weaknesses" have been changed over the years by various writers, often addressing the history of the original creator's personal views. So, in today's comics, some of her weaknesses are due to different reasons, but for the most part have kind of remained more or less the same in regard to being "restricted", slowed down, or simply "human levels" for abilities. And depending on era of comics... She either left Themascrya with her mother's blessing, or basically "ran away from home". Her "creation from clay" has bounced back and forth to actually having a father, although that has changed as well. And she has either been considered a "demi-god" (Part human/Part god) or been elevated to full "Goddess status" depending on the writer and the story. However, in basically EVERY variation of her background over the years, she is considered by Hera and Athena as a "Chosen Champion", which means that these 2 goddesses (Hera and Athena) as well as Aphrodite, Demeter, Artemis and Themis should be considered her biggest influences as far as personality. And in some stories, one of the above have been considered as "family" in one form or another. (Either directly, or implied as mother/sister when written as a "goddess" herself). Hopefully, this will give you a better understanding of who Wonder Woman is, her powers, and how her character interacts with other characters over the course of her movies.

I thought it was very sweet and a clever choice that the writers made Diana and Steve not very sexually experienced. When Diana asked Steve what was making love like he said “I don’t know” The big hero spy dude had never had sex. Wow James Bond he was not and that is a good thing. Steve and Diana were one another’s first true loves. Which explains why she is so guarded with her heart in later films.

FYI Gal Gadot has already been a mother to two children when this movie was made. Which makes her even more attractive in my opinion. Also, the myth of Amazonians is from the women of the lower Volga (Russia) and eastern Ukraine. Their modern day descendants famously crushed the moral of the WW2 German Army. German tanks were being torn apart by 88mm cannons on the approach to Stalingrad. When the Germans broke through, they saw that the soldiers operating the cannons were pigtailed, teenage women.

Not to get too deep in the weeds about her history, she was created in WW2 by a psychologist who wanted little girls to have a comic book hero like Superman. It's a very interesting story and I think you would get a kick out of it if you ever look into it. Everyone was pretty disappointed by the sequel to this though so I guess you could skip it. However I recommend the extended cut of Superman vs Batman and the Snyder cut of Justice League for more Wonder Woman. 5 years old! An example of why DC works It remains a profound, however imperfect movie, effortlessly teetering between a gritty war picture and an aspirational superhero fantasy The third act basically feels like a video game and Patty Jenkins admits the studio forced her to put it in matching a typical summer blockbuster Yet she is a feminist and very anti-war so it's a miracle after 75 years since the comics were published the movie succeeded Really glad this gave us a proper introduction to Diana's character after Batman v Superman and Gal Godot brings it to life It's not just her strength but it's her love and compassion for others that makes her heroic It's tough for her being brought to end WWI since there's not one person to blame heroism isn’t about asking What will we lose? But rather, What can we gain?

You kinda watched this movie out of order in relation to the overall DCEU (DC Extended Universe). After 'Man of Steel' (the first DCEU movie), which you already watched, comes 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' (you should watch the Ultimate Edition, not the theatrical cut) and after that, comes this 'Wonder Woman' movie (most of the movie takes place during WW1, but the present day stuff at the beginning and end of the movie is set post-BvS, hence why Diana receives that photo from Bruce Wayne. They meet in BvS). After that you could watch 'Suicide Squad' (the 2016 movie. The extended cut is the preferred choice) and 'Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn'. After those, 'Zack Snyder's Justice League' goes next. Then 'Aquaman', 'Shazam!', 'The Suicide Squad' (2021 movie) and the 'Peacemaker' TV show. They're all connected.

1) First and foremost... Linda Carter will ALWAYS be "my Wonder Woman" due to age. (And if you know, you know. If not, look her up) 2) While the comics have been extremely "hit or miss" over the years? Well, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Wonder Woman characters due to the enjoyment I have always had reading Greek mythology. So, having her background and portions of her characteristics based upon "Greek Gods" figures, has always drawn me back into her stories over the years in the comics. 3) Honestly speaking from my point of view: Wonder Woman is ALWAYS best when they tell a story involving her connections to the "Greek Gods", especially in relationship to Hera, Athena or the occasional Aphrodite stories. Mostly because these 3 figures are the ones who give us more depth of character and involve stories where a lot of Wonder Woman's "powers" come from or how they are supposed to be used. Because of this, it makes her limits and purpose more meaningful and how she either overcomes the limits, or how the purpose drives her, makes her far more interesting.

I beg to differ. I do agree that this was a great movie, and that the second one was absolute shit. However, I value movies like Aqua Man, that revived one of the lamest superheroes ever. Not many people can make a superhero that talks to fish, utterly badass. The movie 'Joker' was also another example of DC genius. While Joker isn't a lame villain, he was always cast as a crazy maniac. There was no emotional promotion of the character besides his obvious anger and homicidal/suicidal tendencies. This character was re-imagined and was put into a format in which the audience could feel sympathy for him, even when he out right killed people. They make the Joker into a good person in the beginning, then they give him the anger, the suicidal thoughts, and the homicidal thoughts. These two things, good and bad, gave the audience something that conflicts with their morals. That being said, was this movie good? Yes. But in all reality, you put a hot chick in a revealing outfit, in WW1, and gave her a love interest. There is no deep emotional connection with the audience. Decent? Perhaps. A work of art? No. A masterpiece? No chance.

Taking the first line of trenches in WWI was possible, and did happen frequently. Leaving the front frinedly line of trenches the machine guns are there to pin you down so the artillery can do its job, but here the artillery never comes, and then once you take the front trench there is another trench behind it. Advancing from the enemy trench you're leaving range of your own artillery now you have to face the massive Hindenberg Line of concrete fortifications. That's why the trench lines were so static.

IMO, Gal Gadot was the perfect cast for Wonder Woman. For my generation that grew up with Linda Carter's Wonder Woman, the news that they were going to make a Wonder Woman movie were taken with a dismissive "no one can follow the steps of Linda Carter". Linda is a beautiful woman full of charisma, with enchanting eyes and smile. The most beautiful superhero of her time. Gal Gadot is another style all the way. She is beautiful too (she used to be a model) but also a lot more athletic. She was in the Israel military, which I think helps her making the fighting scenes a lot more believable, Instead of trying to be a modern Linda Carter, her version of Wonder Woman goes in a different direction, I think the direction and casting did a wonderful job with Gal Gadot.

I'm sorry, she did not have her armour on under that dress. I thought it was a clever way to answer the question of how and when she changed. It may have actually been a pick up shot they had to go out and shoot because they realised they couldn't cut from the scene at the castle to the one at the village without the question entering the audience's mind, when and how did she change her clothes? Even Superman shows him changing, well the Superman this film heavily referenced, played by Chris Reeve, anyway. EDIT: Love the part where you're speaking the words I was thinking, after she had killed the General, as she come to terms with the idea that perhaps everything she had been brought up to believe was not true. Then they went and spoiled exploring that idea further, perhaps even a whole character arc where she re-evaluates her place in the world, by having Ares show up. That was dumb and only led to a typical big boss fight like we've seen in all the other superhero films. This could have been on a whole other level and I often turn the film off at the end of that scene because I couldn't be bothered sitting through the big boss climax and would rather leave Wonder Woman pondering her existence, doubting her ideals. She would have been a lot more interesting, not just beautiful but deep, very deep.

To find the perfect location to shoot the Amazon island of Themyscira, the birthplace of Wonder Woman herself, the film's producers searched all over the world, finally settling on the Cilentan Coast: a stretch of coastline on the Tyrrhenian Sea, located in the Province of Salerno in Southern Italy. It was chosen because most beaches in the world that sit below big cliffs disappear beneath the tide for part of every day. Production designer Aline Bonetto and her location manager Charles Somers considered 47 countries and visited several of them before they found what they were looking for. Bonetto explained that, "Italy had beautiful weather, a beautiful blue-green sea, not too much tide, not too much wave. Our effects team added some cliffs in post-production and it was the perfect way to go" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Woman_(2017_film)#Filming She has that accent because she's from Israel.
