I have already had 3 different dashcams with the hardwire kit, and one of them completely drained the battery and I had to change it (focus mk3) and the other 2 have been very close to doing so After this I only use the single fuse kit that goes to the accessories.

Hi Pat, thank you for the awsome and very detailed video! We need more KZbinr like you! If you don't mind I have a technical question as I'm not es expret on that part. So my Ioniq 6 just like yours have the 12 volt battery drainage issue. I have a different brand but very similar dashcam. Right now it is connected to the car via a Dongar adapter and therefor I can't use the parking mode recording at all. Is there any way or workaround to connect up these dashcams to the car so they get the power directly from the main battery so we don't need to worry about a deplepted 12 V battery or a missing footage due to the low voltage of it?

@@RobertoPhoto the High Voltage battery is responsible for providing power to the DC to DC module to keep the 12v battery charged. You can't connect directly to the HV battery. Hyundai needs to update their software so the 12v battery doesn't die. I previously owned a hybrid BMW i8 with the same technology. That battery never had the issue that Hyundai owners constantly have.

@@PatsGarageOnline Thank you Pat, I understand it now and makes sense. Let's hope Hyundai will fix this for us. :)

A friendly warning. The way you plugged in that "Always On" pigtail in the bottom right spare bypasses the fuse. The hot side of that socket is towards the left. And the head of the pigtail (end opposite the wire) should be plugged into the hot side of the socket.

Can ypu clarify this? Does it mean it should be plugged in with pigtail to the right?

Not sure if it applies here but the viofo adapter has reverse connection protection

Are there any safety concerns fmregarding possibly crossing airbag at the A pillar?
@PatsGarageOnlineАй бұрын
I decided to cross at the gap between the two pieces of trim since there should not be an airbag there. If there was an airbag there, it would cause the trim edges to impact and impale the driver.
@PadinnPlaysАй бұрын
@PatsGarageOnline I ended up installing tonight and I pulled that trim down a little. There does appear to be an airbag in there. I ended up routing across the bottom of the trim, below the bag, and then alone the edge - similar to where wiring for speaker goes. Seems like that would avoid any issue.

@@PadinnPlays Oh that's very interesting that there's an airbag at the intersection of the two pieces of trim! I'm going to do more research.
@PadinnPlaysАй бұрын
@PatsGarageOnline I'm not a car expert by any means but yeah, it looks like the side curtain airbag is there. I think what happens if it goes off is the trim pops out (but is held in half way by a clip) and the bag inflates downwards. Most likely the force would sever the wire of a dash cam, I wasn't sure if that would be a safety issue.
@PadinnPlaysАй бұрын
It wasn't super hard to pull the trim off a little and wire it in such a way that airbag could deploy would intersecting it. If you need more info let me know:)

Another solid video, Pat. Just straight to the point with everything! We specifically produce LEDs for auto. Can we invite you to do a review for our product? We have emailed for an inquiry.

Do you miss your i8? I still have mine

I admit, I do miss the car. I just wish BMW would have engineered it a bit better.
