I was curious about this, it seemed like it would be the law that you can only ride in the correct direction. But I thought I better check. MyLicence (The SA Govenment website for explanations of road laws) says "If you are riding on a road with a bicycle lane, you must if practicable, ride in the bicycle lane. You may move out of the bicycle lane to avoid debris, potholes, or to safely overtake another bicycle rider. You must only ride in the correct direction in the bicycle lane". So it is indeed the case that these people were being idiots.
@jay-uo2bi9 ай бұрын
Rare to see someone genuinely apologetic on this channel. That said at least in QLD, I believe it is the law, and in my opinion logical that you must ride in the same direction as the other lanes. "Direction of travel in a bicycle lane must be the same direction as the traffic in the lane next to the bicycle lane." Bike network should be separate (and actually developed), cycling at half the speed that cars are going with them being entirely invisible behind you is scary.

@commodorenut9 ай бұрын
@@Soccera0 exactly. Most drivers would simply slam on the brakes and slide if they didn’t have ABS. First time I ever did driver training, ABS was rare (early 1990s). Almost everyone slammed in the brakes and slid. By the end of the day, they learnt to modulate their brake foot, but many still didn’t grasp it as well as they could have. It takes skill and knowing your car’s limits to outbrake what ABS can do, and sadly, 95% (or more) drivers don’t have that. I have proved it myself several times at advanced driving courses I organise for our work reps. I did one in my older car (non-ABS 80s model) and another in one of the company cars. I had the shortest stopping distance out of everyone (likely due to my car weighing only 1400kg vs modern ones being 1700kg to 2t). The main thing was that I know the car so well (I’ve owned these models for over 30 years) that I can brake on the limit (in the dry). Motorsport practice also helps. But you are right, the vast majority of drivers would not be able to stop as short without ABS. That’s the reason you no longer see 2 thick black lines (skid marks) leading up to a rear-ender these days, but there were lots of these “evidence lines” in the 80s & 90s.

23:04 Don't get me wrong, the driver's lack of skill is bad but they were probably panicking a bit when they were letting off the brake and the car was rolling forward despite being in reverse. That car would have VW's DSG dual clutch auto, you need to use the handbrake like a manual or be quicker on the accelerator if the slope isn't steep enough for the automatic hill start assist to kick in.

At 27:34, the B-double truck didn't seem to slow down, showing that the driver hadn't even tried to stop in front of the roundabout. But it looks very scary when you are at a T-bone location and vulnerable to a heavy vehicle. You have nothing to do but "give way" to this lousy driver.

You mean the one where the bus decided late in the game that it was in the wrong lane and needed to merge and exit, and just expected everyone else to part like the Red Sea? Not good from either of them. Bus driver needs to plan more than 50m in front of him (something, something, professional driver). DC needs more awareness, but for me it's on the bus.

Audio also can help provide additional information for insurance assessment if something happens out of view. Remember, you can cut out the embarrassing singing before submitting to DCOA, but you can't add back in the missing indicator sounds to show the insurance company you had the indicator on at the roundabout.

5:02 This is why I don't change lanes when there is someone at an intersection.. The truck isn't realllly in the wrong, he went to the outermost lane as the camera was in the left most lane initially.. he was being courteous, the Camera, even though had their indicator , changed 2 lanes, I would have stayed put until after the intersection just for this exact reason.

12:10 Does no one get taught that you shouldn't enter into an intersection that isn't clear just because your light is green? See so many of these every week.
@captainunderpants2009 ай бұрын
That's incorrect. Unless the road you're entering is choked, you move into the intersection on the green, and if you don't get a gap before the light changes, you make sure oncoming traffic stops, and then clear the intersection. Otherwise, you, and everyone else behind you has to wait another light sequence, and that can happen multiple times when it's busy.
@emmahelps11889 ай бұрын
What about the lights that have no green arrows? I'd be stuck on South Rd from 5am till 9pm by that logic! You enter the intersection. If there was no opportunity to go while the light was green, when the traffic opposite has all stopped on amber or then red - you then clear the intersection. The next direction has to wait for you to clear. Plain and simple. An idiot in front of me skipped 3 sets of lights doing this once, not hard to learn the rules!
