An 80s Eurodisco song from GIna T called "Tokyo By Night" quickly pops in my head watching your drive though its metro.

Interesting to see some lights being more white and some more yellow. I just knew this from Berlin, where former west Berlin has different street lights than former east Berlin!

The last ten minutes of this clip are pretty much the delivery route I drove last week in my truck, hauling a load of steel to the construction site at Hamamatsucho station in Shiodome..I could even see the guard man standing at the entrance of the site in this video...I'm one of the few, or perhaps the only Truck driver in Tokyo from New Zealand and I can't say as I enjoy driving a big truck in Tokyo very much...Not down at sgtreet level anyway....Driving on the expressways through the city are a blast though...expecially at like 4 am onthe way to somewhere like Osaka...But when you get off the highways and have to drive down at street level it's just a lot of stress because there are so many narrow little streets that you can get into real trouble in if you take a wrong turn..Tokyo car drivers are totally a pain in the ass to us truck drivers...They have no idea how dangerous their rude driving is when they cut in front of you and all the other stupid things they do...They don't realise how unforgiving six tons of iron beams can be if you slam on the brakes... lol....Tokyo is a high stress city to drive around in if you're in an 8 meters long truck, you really have to know your route and hope you're not diverted from it by roadworks... Cruising round Tokyo in a car is a breeze...That's fun. But when you're working and your company is too stingy to install of heavy vehicle GPS in your truck, it sucks big time...LOL...

One thing that amazes me about Tokyo is just how many viaducts you've got all over the place. In Montreal, we had this debate over the possible construction of the second phase of the REM, a transit system on a viaduct. It turned into a huge mess and eventually, the proposition got dropped. Given how the first phase of the REM is being built, some backlash was to be expected. One of the things that is really notable about your viaducts is the fact that there's some attention being given to the appearance of the underside. That's probably a large part of what ultimately sunk the proposal for the second phase of the REM. Within a kilometer, they've got concrete beams, steel beams as well as steel box girder beams. They could have covered the underside, they could have gone with box girder beams the entire way, they could have done a half dozen things to make it look more uniform and aesthetically pleasing. Our project planners could learn a lot from Japanese designs.

Today I looked at the newspaper and one of the most famous news agencies in the world, Washington post, had peeled Tokyo at the top of the table in the view of the most populous city in the world with 37 million. Is this true??
