I have spent probably 10 or so hours with this plugin over the last few weeks and fell in love. Then I watch your video and in less than 30 minutes I have already learned so much more. I have been a fan of u-he for a long time and they keep offering so much for creatives. I make ambient music and this plugin is a sound design dream. I figured I should get all my paces in with the "lite" version before the full version drops. It will be one of those plugins that you can never fully explore and that is such a cool thing to think about! Thank you as always brother!

Zebralette 3 is incredible, I couldn't believe some of the sounds I was getting out of this synth. Can't wait for Zebra 3, though I suspect given the complexity and quality of just Zebralette, and the fact it's still in beta, we have some years to go before Zebra 3 perhaps..Though I assume work and improvements on Zebralette are probably transferred to Zebra 3 and both are being developed in tandem.

Awesome, thank you. Just a little note, I know it's a tricky one; the resolution knob you mention around 6.50 actually determines the refresh rate of the oscillator, so, if you have transitions or modulations that are very fast, you want it high to properly represent them, even though, keeping it low creates some well... "interesting" artifacts for the discerning synth programmer😂 If on the other hand, you're keeping the wave shape kind of static, or moving slowly, a lower setting will save you quite some CPU; I suppose as in Zebra2, the feature will get more relevant once you have the whole synth; if for example you need a static waveform, to then process with different components, you'll agree there's absolutely no point in recalculating the waveform 2000 times a second. In any case, this really has nothing to do with the "intended" harmonic content, if it helps, I mìsunderstood that too learning Zebra2😂

Hey Dash really nice 💌. I love Zebralette 3 and I wonder if you have tried to make a psybass sound with it. I have found that it's engine is really clean, the sounds that come from this plugin are cleaner than other synths and in some cases this is what you want. And as you have shown you can get also really nasty. Also when using Spectral distortion in Zebralette I have found that Harmonic split can help a lot to get a "smother" sound.
@DashGlitch8 ай бұрын
Yes I have, in fact there is an osc FX called "spectral decay" which you can literally just put on a saw wave and carve out the decay per frequency, that's it, no filters/envelopes or anything just that osc FX and a guide - it's crazy
@mudi2000a8 ай бұрын
By the way Zebralette 3 is really only using the curves internally. Only when you export it, it will be converted to a traditional wave table. That is also the reason why you can’t import all traditional wave tables properly.

After seeing this, other videos and after playing around with it myself, I find that I’m not hearing anything super interesting or new. @DashGlitch8 ай бұрын
Well you can do inharmonics which wavetables can't, it's more about the features than how we apply it to make the sounds we already know. It just lays a solid foundation for future experiments and unexplored territory.

@BappinProductions8 ай бұрын
I’m an avid manual reader but I’ve passed on this and instead I’ve just been enjoying noodling around with it. The way the additive engine is implemented is very sympathetic to blind exploration and the happy accidents it spits out. I haven’t even touched the waveform editing yet, since there’s so much you can do with mangling simple waveforms with the additive and osc fx features.
@wwoodard88 ай бұрын
As with any wavetable editor my question is: how do I correlate what I draw with some hoped for output sound? In other words, do I just start with a random scribble? Or can I grow to be proficient enough to draw an initial wave that provides a desired specific sound type? All the Bézier curve tools in the world aren’t helpful unless I can create something coherent from them. It would be really cool to use the editor in this meaningful way but I’m not even sure how I would begin to learn that.

@@DashGlitch Thanks! Would love to understand this better. I've started trying to learn on my own a bit- draw a square wave, sounds brash. Curve the corners, sounds smoother. Stuff like that. But let's say I need something that sounds "clarinetty, but deep, rich bass" for example. This happens all the time - I have a sound in my head, but need a way to make it appear in real life. What are the general wave drawing techniques that I could draw from to get me close to what I hear? Thanks again for all the great vids...

@DashGlitch8 ай бұрын
clarinet is just a fundamental and selection of overtone, see the second example, couple this with a bit of noise at the transient and the correct envelope and you're off to the races. It might help to study the source that you want to recreate, either in a oscilloscope or spectrogram to see how each partial reacts etc, and try replicate that

"Hello. I have been following you for a while now and I've learned a lot from you. I also started using the Bitwig software. I listened to your songs on Spotify. I think the high frequencies in your monitors might be leaning upwards because the high frequencies in your music seem to be a few decibels lacking. It sounds more bass-heavy. Or perhaps you chose this path deliberately to avoid fatiguing the ear. This is just my humble opinion."
