Dashing! - Removing the center console

Stripping the car down progresses. A late night delivery inspires me to remove the center console (Radio, climate control and... clock?).
A common mod is to fit a double DIN radio, which either requires you to move the existing mechanical climate control down OR use the Type R surround where the controls are moved to the side, which... goes for a premium now. So, what to do?
