Funny you say about the bricks. I've lived in England, and London, most of my life but never thought about all those bricks being laid in Liverpool Street and places like that. You made a really good point. That is a lot of brick to lay! Before I moved to London I commuted from Kent and it was around 50-60 minutes, but I always did work. There where 4 types of people I found; the sleepers, the readers, the watchers (like you), and the workers. When I first started working in London I was 19 and I was so exhausted I was sleeping, but once I got used to it I did work, often documentation or teaching myself something (I work in IT as well) and it used to make time fly. Before I knew it, was at Cannon Street or home.

"Hmm, it almost seems like this is just 2 tracks and a load of trees" funnily enough, that's pretty realistic :p These trains use something similar to an automatic transmission in a car (hydraulic torque converter) - basically they do full throttle or coasting, not much else (irl the drivers often go straight to full power) also the "-30%" position is idle, because train sim logic.

I would have thought that the underground trains towards the end of the video would've been static. Good to see that JT are putting a lot of effort into their scenarios.

@amirdawoodbhai7 жыл бұрын
Just look at 1:00:39 , the station sign has two words, furthermore Croxley isn't served by Chiltern Railway services in any form and doesn't feature the complex track layout that West Ruislip does. I know the Metropolitan has S8's thats why it's such a waste to model it then place it in a completely unrealistic location.

The 75 restriction between Leamington and Banbury is because that left bend is actually much sharper than the it's modelled here. And you didn't get an AWS warning because you only ever get those when linespeed is reduced by 33% or more. The whistle boards are for foot crossings

Really good video, Squirrel and a really nice looking route. I hope they eventually add the lines to Aylesbury and go all the way down to Oxford (although they are probably waiting for the line up to Bletchley, Bedford and Milton Keynes to be built in real life). The Chiltern route was upgraded from single to double track and in some places they had to split the track to make it fit, which explains those track splits you saw. You saw three different tube lines, the Central between West Ruislip and South Ruislip and the Jubliee and Metropolitan between Neasden and Finchley Road ( the Jubliee stops everywhere and runs in the middle and the Metropolitan runs non stop between Wembley Park and Finchley Road on the outside tracks (that was the train you were following). Also, the four stations on the Monopoly board are Kings Cross, Marylebone, Fenchurch Street and Liverpool Street.

Northolt park looks nothing like my local session but nice to see my local route, and to see further than where I usually go, here is some info I know about the chiltern line, from West Ruislip-South Ruislip you follow the central line, you then branch off passing South Ruislip industrial zone and the dump yard, you then run by your self crossing the Piccadilly line just after Northolt Park, after Wembley stadium you are running parallel to the metropolitan and jubilee lines and then you branch off for a very long tunnel leading to Marylebone, hope this helped!

The reason the front of the commuter style trains (CAF IE Models in particular as well as this) have flat fronts is because they come in groups of carriages and cabs, basically, yes, it makes it easier to connect up multiple sets and also makes it much cheaper to build because they don't need to worry about drag coefficient etc... as much as say an IE 22000 (Which also comes in groups of 4, cab at each end and they attach the cabs to each other) This commuter style train would generally never see anything over 70 ish track speed because they're mostly used for suburban rail networks and then the faster more luxurious trains would take a more express-style route more like this.

In regards to the front end shape, at about 12.20, there are streamlined front DMUs, the Class 180s. These are capable of 125, so using them in the Chiltern Line where maximum speeds are between 75-90, is a waste. The reason the 165s are flat is they are old enough that they are developments from the old 1st Generation DMUs, 108s, 117s, 127s, etc.
@jimmyskite7 жыл бұрын
Useless fact. The tunnel you go through 57:00 into the video at Gerrards Cross station was built over the railway line so they could build a Tesco store on top. Construction was delayed as it collapsed onto the track. Luckily the drive was stopped at the station and saw bits falling down in the tunnel and no one was hurt.
@rogercrick98137 жыл бұрын
The station at Bicester Village which you said was missing is not on the mainline. It is on the branch to Oxford that leaves the main line south of Bicester North Station. There is a recent video from tstar2001UK, a Chiltern Driver, that is a cab ride of this same journey with commentary which would answer most of the questions that you raised in your video. The train is a 100mph class 168 which is what Chiltern normally use for London to Birmingham services.

Paul, you need to understand that the class 166 is a very old train model. JT always doest that. They take a oldmodel, they apply a livery and you think is't s brand new model, but it's not. That's why you miss so many features, like the cab light and the speed control and so on. If you tried the class 68 from steam, you'll see how different that is. And overally, the quality of JT routes is not the best either. Compare this route with another one ending in London, like the East Coast Mainline, the Chatam Mainline and so on and you will understand what I mean. That said, nice video as always.

A train driver has to learn a route enough that he knows exactly where he is, day or night and in all weather conditions, to the satisfaction of an examiner. They must also read and sign any notes about changes or restrictions on the route each day before he takes out a train.

Fellow train driver here. It isn't actually that hard to keep concentration. I for example usually listens to music and just watch out the window. And when you accelerate and decelerate you are automatically in concentration mode, so as I said, it isn't very hard.
@Stringbean4214 жыл бұрын
That sounds illegal to me, listening to music whilst driving. You're supposed to be listening outs for those AWS warnings. If you weren't concentrating and the automatic break triggered in and brought you to a complete stop then I think you would surely be fired if it was found you were listening to music with your earbuds in.

Given that train is two coupled up DMUs, the acceleration shouldn't be that slow, unless the rear DMU is not enabled for some reason, in which case you're basically towing dead weight (which is fun on a Class 142 in reality, having been on such a train when one broke down at Colne station!! If you didn't know the UK and you just watched this video, you would think that the area between Birmingham and London is quite sparsely populated. You'd be very wrong lol
@seraphina9856 жыл бұрын
The Chiltern Main Line is actually a fairly unpopulated route for that part of England, if you compare the population along it to the West Coast Main Line which is running only 15-20 miles away you would think you were in completely different parts of the country. Believe it or not Milton Keynes alone actually has more people than Warwick, Leamington Spa, Banbury and Bicester combined and that is completely without considering Hemel Hempsted, Leighton Buzard, Rugby and Coventry that are all also along the section of the West Coast Main Line in between the West Midlands Urban Area and the London Urban Area.

I'm a retired train driver who worked over that route, amongst others, many times over the years with BR, more so into Paddington but occasionally into Marylebone with special trains - especially trains for the old Wembley on Cup Final days - long before privatisation. At 37.49 you queried the track layout. It is the remains of the junction for the old Great Central Railway and was laid out along the same lines as Aynho Junction, which you sadly missed because you decided to look at the map instead. Furthermore, drivers DO NOT put cab lights on in tunnels - that's one reason why you have instrument lights - and the view in tunnels is only slightly better than your cheap and nasty game showed even with a headlight. Headlights are an American idea that some idiot over here decided we should copy and they serve absolutely no useful purpose to a train driver. As a general rule, if it's in the way - day or night - and you can SEE IT, IT'S TOO DAMN LATE COS YOU'RE GONNA HIT IT!!! The Underground at West Ruislip (Central Line) is not the same LU line that you come alongside at Neasden. There are actually two LU lines at Neasden. The Jubilee Line and the Metropolitan. Both run alongside the original Great Central Railway from Harrow on the Hill (though the Met runs alongside all the way to Rickmansworth where it then shares the track as far as Amersham.) Chiltern operate the "main line" services over the old Great Central between Aylesbury and Marylebone. The line you "drove" over joins up with that lot at Neasden - oh and Marylebone is pronounced Marry le bone not Marlie bone. Finally, I can fully understand your friend saying that he doesn't enjoy driving trains now. You could train a monkey to drive this modern plastic crap. It's all electronics and it's just like playing with a toy train. There is no skill in it anymore - AWS warning boards everywhere, TPWS (Train Protection Warning System) to take control and put the brakes on when it thinks you've nodded off and speed advisory boards big enough to see from a passing plane. Nowadays, to be a driver, you just need to have your brain removed and volunteer to pick up an extortionate wage packet. Cheers...

Have you ever considered using any of the graphics mods (like reshade) with train sim? They can really go a long way to address some of the shortcomings of the game engine.. adding in lightshafts/godrays, lens flare, motion blur, hdr, colour correction, better antialiasing etc... Not quite up to the standard of the new unreal engine game, but definitely better.
