This DLC is set in the year 1983 (explains all the industries then in Northern England) and that exact loco was withdrawn from service two years later simply because it expired its lifespan, presumably 25 years. Thanks for uploading Skwirral!

Yes the NTP route is based of the bygone era ageing trains with the 47s,40s,45s, 101s and 08s the 08s continued as shunting was regular.

Oh I love those old class 40s. The horse gallop idle of them and the belch when you roll it on. Funny that you mentioned pneumatic wipers. My dad had an antique Cadillac with vacuum wipers and I loved how they would hiss and change speed according to the engine rpm. Such cool tech from back then.

If you're cold in-game, the camera should start shaking a tiny bit and gradually shakes more violently the colder you are. If you're hot in-game, sweat should start going from top of the camera down to the bottom (like rain on a window) making it extremely difficult to see. Sounds like a cool feature to add.

@20:09 There was originally a large coal fired power station on this site from 1925 until the 1980s . That was demolished in the 1990s, and since 1998 the site has been a 5MW gas turbine plant currently operated by E.On.

The brakes on those box vans date back to the steam era when brakes were released under steam pressure, so a diesel locomotive needs to pump air into the system to get them to release, the longer the train, the longer the time taken to charge the system.

God looking at the Leeds of that time - as a 21 year old it's both satisfying that I recognise the whole thing but also kinda weird cause of how different it is! Think the only major difference with the station now is all the lines go under the roof instead of those few on the east side just being outside.
@larkinggames1060

Never realised it was so accurate. I drive this route everyday and apart from obviously extra lines/crossovers back then the layout, gradients, station placement, viaducts and tunnels (Morley tunnel is around 1 mile btw) even some signal placements are all really close to the real thing. Also can’t believe how many ground position lights it had coming into Leeds from the west! Has 1 now for p17

Don't worry about preserved diesels - The business case for many preserved lines maintaining their diesel fleet is unassailable, and therefore methods of passing on the skills needed to drive locos like the Class 40 will be found. We have managed to keep steam alive even as the old boys there passed away, after all.

I grew up in Hull, Quite near to Priory Sidings, and I still love the rumble of these class 40's' . I live in Australia now, having emigrated in 1989 and I would love to see this east coast line go right through to Hull Paragon ( yes I know it's a dead end ). I remember standing on the platform waiting for my morning ride to Beverly ( I worked for Associated Tyre Specialists in Beverly) and I can still hear the class 40 rumbling away when it's departure time arrived. Paragon Station had a glass roof at that time which didnt open and in the winter months it would fill up with smoke when they climbed on board and started her up from cold.. I wish they would extend the lines right through to Hull passing through York. You couldnt go North up the coast from Hull as the line that went through Withernsea, Bridlington and Scarborough was closed and torn up when I was a kid but connecting Hull and all the other Stations on the East Coast Line would be wonderful and would bring back so many memories..

And in a 40 you'd never be hot, most were known as fridges with drafty cabs! Fuel economy of 1/2 - 1 mpg but they pulled very well indeed, very underrated loco hated by drivers towards the end as they were never looked after, a driver complained re the toilet not working on one and was basically told tough! I love the way those old Diesels sound, the rattle and purr of them, its like an eargasm just listening to them lmao! Also when you mentioned the efficiency of them being not great, I think it deserves to be said that, that is taking into account modern times, for its time I'm sure it was top of the line in efficiency and power, the funny thing is, those old engines tend to be a lot more reliable than the modern counterparts, and it's sad that more people don't realize that! I mean some of them have been running for 60, 80, even 100 years, you'll never find that in a new engine, and a modern engine will NEVER sound as good, even if you sank thousands of dollars into it, it just can't match its ancestry on the best parts of what it is at its core!

These un-braked freight trains must have been very difficult to control going down hill bunching up against each other and pushing the locomotive. Uphill wasalso challengingmaking sure the vans are stretched out with correct use of power so the couplings were not damaged. I am surprised that there are no guards van as the guard wpuld play an important part in helping with the braking and also taking the strain on the couplings. Very nice video and really enjoy your commentating. The West Somerset Railway has some good shunting scenarios you might like to check out.

good video ... the background looks more realistic in the rain because you don't see the changing trees as you get closer to them and the colors looks more realistic for some reason ... driving an industrial train in England somewhere = very cool and relaxing !!! Too bad the DLC for this game is way too expensive nowadays especially when you usually only get one really good scenario out of the five or so you usually get with each route because the longer scenarios you usually just drive there and then back again { i prefer to go in one direction only } ... the good news is there is a fix somewhere for the trees popping for TSW3 and it's different than the TSW2 fix for the foliage setting whatever it's called in the Unreal Engine engine.ini files { the distance the trees pop can be changed to much farther multiples of distance away and it doesn't seem to be hardly noticeable regarding frames per second ... u just need to use the notepad program for it ... i was using either 3x or 5x distance ... i think 5x is really a good distance with a 1060 or 1070 video card } ... i found that fix a couple months ago { probably on reddit or another forum somewhere } ... also i recommend turn on Vsync because it helps prevent the frame drop like when the game stutters sometimes but vsync was more effective for Dirt Rally 2.0 and solved the frame stuttering at least for that game when everything else was turned off { and if not possible to turn off it was set to low like foliage, track detail etc } ... still it probably helps for TSW3 because it was apparently designed for use with video games ... that's all i know ... i don't remember what the other settings for graphics do { anisotropic filtering and multisampling and TAA for dirt rally 2.0 ... i was going to try to find out today but Vsync worked for at dirt rally 2.0 ... i remember vsync was probably good for frames dropping / lagging in whatever game so I'm not doing any more research / experimenting today ... i see Vsync in the settings for TSW3 though ... i just thought I'd mention it and tested it once for only a minute or two on TSW3 and that's it because I'm going to be busy today ... there still was a frame drop every once in a while so the game is not perfect although my computer could be better too { 1070ti and and i7 processor 3.6 ghz } ... why is it even an option to turn Vsync on / off ? it should probably be permanently on !!! I'm not an expert on games but I'm the biggest expert out of anyone who i know regarding this game ... hehe
