The system requirements seem somewhat high to play this sim, I know they are shooting for ultimate realism and graphics but the requirements are going to cut out a large portion of the market as not everybody can afford or have the means to build a rig that can cope with the requirements (myself included in this market bracket) but other than that it looks fantastic and would love to get a fair bash at it someday, hope they will bring it out in disk package as well and not only keep it on steam

Hi Squirrel, Many thanks for the review. Having own this game myself. I also see a lot of potential with this new platform of train simulator. I think a lot of people are overlooking that its a brand new product, so there will be some bugs here and there. But once those bugs are ironed out. TSW has potential to be a good successor to TS2017. For me, the most important thing is stability and TSW does run fine on my bog standard gaming PC that only has the Intel i5 at 3.2Ghz with 8GB ram and a ASUS 2GB vRAM Nvidia GTX950 graphics card and I can get about 25-30fps on this system that I built in 2015. When I build a higher grade PC later this year for myself. That should be more suitable for TSW when it expands with more content in the future.

Definately helps with immersion when you see the same three cars all time... Also, Dovetail did say that they were hoping to release the next route in August/September and they have also hinted it will be British though that's not been confirmed. Considering it took more than two years to make I'm a touch disappointed to be honest but it is what it is and it will be interesting to see how it develops in the future.

@Adventurist7 жыл бұрын
30fps on a 1080 is not acceptable. That's just horrible optimization which becomes more obvious once you turn down the settings. That game should easily run at 100+ fps on low with a 1080, hell it shouldn't even drop below 60 on ultra.
@ConductorDon7 жыл бұрын
Having been a long time railworks player, and always hating the lack of realism and interaction with the controls, I think this game is very promising. The models are beautiful and the fact that nearly every single switch is operational is very impressive to me. I also love having to get out of the train to throw switches, and uncouple cars. If there was one thing in this regard I could think they could add, it would be having to also hook and unhook the air hoses when coupling and if the player forgot to do so, it would affect the braking performance. I think this can easily become the premier train sim out there as long as they continue to add in more locomotives, cars, and routes. As far as locos go, the ES44AH, AC6000CW, and SD-40-3 rebuilds are on my wishlist for the game. Overall a two thumbs up from me and a great buy IMO for anyone who loves trains or playing simulation games.

Actual result is don't even compare the perfomance of TSW and other UE4 based projects.That's the point. Graphics is not the cornerstone of any railroad simulator, but even "obsolete" TS2017 looks pretty similar at maximum settings (cause landscape looks very primitive, just look at water of forest) and works at around 120-190 fps on my workstation.

Whether you like getting 30 fps or not, this is on the Unreal Engine. All of the tech demos done on the UE 4 have framerates well above 60, and this is getting less than 40 most of the time. This is obviously because of poor optimization, period. Dovetail has never worked with a sophisticated engine such as this, so of course it's not optimized properly yet. Only time will tell if they will keep learning the full potential of the Unreal Engine and come back and improve the optimization. It's still very early and there is time for them to improve on this, however, it should have been optimized before they released it, because we all know that the beta had low framerates too, but that was more forgiving being a beta test and all. All-in-all, this does look rather promising, as long as the optimization improves.
@JustinCastleberry1177 жыл бұрын
So if this is a simulator, wouldn't you expect 60fps? But what if I told you that I get more fps in a game called Train Simulator 2017. So please elaborate on why a simulator cannot achieve 60fps. What's wrong with optimizing the framerate? There are lag spikes and rendering issues.
@JustinCastleberry1177 жыл бұрын
Then they should've used UE 3 then lol.

Also, I forgot to ask why a game called Train Simulator 2017 is an arcade game to you when it really is supposed to be a simulator, and is called a simulator. Let's not get worked up here man, I'm totally cool. And I'm just having a discussion.

Can you make an automatic brake application and bail off the independent? So that brakes on the cars remain applied, but the brakes on the locomotives are released. Also, is there visible slack action when starting up and slowing down? And do the pressure gauges in the cab give actual realistic readings? Unlike in TS 2016/17 where the minimum application you can make on most units is a whopping 20psi, and the train stops on a dime. Extremely unrealistic

As a very casual train sim fan, I think I'll check this out, however I'll definitely be waiting for some patches. It's clearly not well optimized, and it needs much more content for the money. Did you run the beta? Is this fps better than the beta for you? I couple barely scrape 9fps in the beta on ultra with a GTX1070 running a quad core with 32Gb of memory. I'm extremely nervous about paying for this given how abominable the fps was in the beta.
@squirrel7 жыл бұрын
+Chris Longhurst what you see in this video is the release candidate built 48hrs before release
@chrislonghurst7 жыл бұрын
Squirrel but did you also run the beta? I'm trying to find out if they made and improvement from the beta to the release. The majority of reviews and comments would seem to indicate that they didn't. I'm concerned because my rig is able to run pretty much every UE4 game at 60fps maxed out but the TSW beta couldn't reach 10fps. So I just want to know on your machine did you see an improvement from the beta?
@Lovesomechicken7 жыл бұрын
Chris Longhurst have you not watched the other videos?
@chrislonghurst7 жыл бұрын
I've watched a few but nobody seems to be talking about the differences between the beta and release. That's what I'm interested in because on my rig the beta was unplayable (where almost all other UE4 based games run at 60fps without issue). It was only using one of the four cores and only using about 15% GPU utilization. Most UE4 games run on all four cores with about 60% GPU utilization on my rig.

I'm more of a (thinker) rather then a feeler who likes flashy stuff and me and my friend who has 100s of steam games and DLC's both agree this is WAY too expensive for the little amount of content. I am NOT asking this to be free as a lot of simulator fans will try to put false words in people's mouths who criticize. I just ask for a decent starting price maybe have the price go up if more content is put into it. Generally it should probably be $30.00 as an initial price and subject to rise as more stuff is added/fixed. DLC's should NEVER cost 2/3rds of the price of a full game UNLESS it's an expansion that dramatically changes mechanics. Sort of like going from Sim City 4 vanilla to Rush Hour which you almost can't live without it. Or going frrom Sim City 3000 to 3000 Unlimited/World Edition UK. THOSE actually change game mechanics almost making it a new game. If Sim City 4 (Maxis/EA) charged for city building maps the prices CSX does for it's train routes there would be massive outrage even if it's done really well it wouldn't really change the gameplay just provide aesthetic details only. Many fans would've dumped Maxis almost overnight.
@Logan9127 жыл бұрын
If you want a good simulator for US railroading that goes beyond what Train Simulator 2017/RailWorks is capable of then don't even bother with Train Sim World. Run 8 V2 is MUCH better in almost every way except graphics (which isn't too much of a concern if realistic train operations are the primary focus,) and even Open Rails with MSTS content is often better.

Really cool Review! Is it possible to create own scenarios/timetables? I loved that feature from the previous ts.
