Actually in the ATR, after startup, they move the Condition Levers from Feather to AUTO.

Not in the 200 series, propeller RPM is more crudely controlled by the CL's and power is set using the PL's, much like in a Dash, and not the PCU rotary switch you see on later models that involves simply leaving the CL's in auto and and selecting CLB and CRZ power on a switch.

Very dangerous planes to work around must be visual at all times cause unlike a ceiling fan your head wont stop those propellers from turning. I heard many horror stories about incidents that happened at the Worlds Busiest Airport in Atlanta

On a separate line of thought, this video would be a great example to use to refute conspiracy theorists. The video show cases how the strobe and data compression effects alter images from these types of cameras. at 2:42 even the blade shapes change. No I'm not complaining or knocking the video. I just realized its as wonderful an example of how video technology generates abnormalities as it is of the plane.

***** Yes, they are variable pitch, but the blades only tilt around their center axis, they do not change their shape. The shape distortion was the subject of comment. If you google "focal plan shutter distortion" you can find some lengthy commentary on it. Yes those are normally about 35mm cameras, but most video emulates (shutterless) this as they scan the CCD. There are some video cameras that would actually show the pitch change, and they are referred to as Cine , or frame video. google "Cannon EOS C500" or "Red raven video". Brace for price shock when you do!!!. The reason some people pay so much? If this was done on one the blades would stay perfectly straight, and you would see the tips move from flat to edge on as the blades rotate to the power angle.

I had suspected the blades' orientation can be controlled from inside the cockpit, and it just amazes me how sturdy that mechanism hast to be to do that while the blade is spinning at such high rpm.
