brilliant stuff Chandoo and your family contributions ... I had a year secondment offer and my option given was Chennai :D - Yes I used STAR - really focusing on the outcome the benefits that were realised. After every interview the first thing i would do is write down all the questions i was asked to learn from experience. My CV is written in an achievement style similar to STAR answers but condensed .
@PaulasPicks3 жыл бұрын
I always take notes during the interview. Great idea to write down the questions asked!

Flexibility is a sticky point. I think being upfront is important. Honestly depends on your circumstances. Especially harder when you are a woman with a young family. Fortunately one good thing from COVID is flexible working hours and location so now it does make it a bit easier.

good advice. i def feel it's a chance for me to suss them out as well. after all, they will be paying me for my work. my current job had a great process. at the time, i wasn't sure i needed to look yet. so i only applied to jobs that didn't waste my time filling information into their HR interface. i was leaning hard on old school resume. and my boss got 110 applications for this role from which he chose the ~10 best to phone interview and of those he'd pick the top ~3 to give data and see what they did with it. i'm not super cocky, but i know i'm good enough and different enough that i'd get the job if i got to the final 3. i was already in top 10% at that point. just hearing how he was testing potential hires made me want this job more. and the funniest part is i had changed my generic career identity on top of resume from data/sales analyst to brain conservationist. which is how i ended up on the top 10. hahaha. for a quirky person to find a quirky company, that worked. wouldn't do that if i was for sure hard focused seeking.

Had created Dashboards & Programming in Advance Excel for our Production Operation Streamlining, Inventory Management & Production Planning. I would like to move my Career to Data Analytics. Can you please guide me on what will be the best path to Proceed?

Try looking for any data jobs in your industry / current workplace. This is the best way to transition. Also reach out to your colleagues (both current and ex) and see if any of them can refer you for a job in data / tech. If nothing works, apply for data jobs outside with a strong cover letter or find a consultant / agent to represent you. All the best.

@balendranrajanathan68083 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips. One thing I have come across at an interview is that often the interviewer itself is not knowledgeable enough about the subject matter we discuss. For example, when speaking about Power Query/Power Pivot/Power BI very often it goes right over their heads! I cannot explain a value addition I have made via these tools where the systems are not that great. You run into blank faces when you try to explain them and how useful they are! The tools in Office 365 Excel like LET functions are no go areas!

For my interviews, I try to have a couple of examples & I excerpt the information. Meaning I replace any specific information for the company (e.g., employee names). It is easier to walk interviewers through a visual example sometimes.

I haven't done any heavy handed work with it like scripting or such, so how can I face such interviews where they require you to be an SME, but you had been a user throughout?

For most of us we're breaching company confidentiality if we use examples from our work place and show it to a recruiter/future employer. And if I were an employer, I'd think seriously about hiring someone who didn't think twice about showing me confidential info. That might work for a contractor but not an employee. Not particularly good advice, very unprofessional.

Tip: you don't pass a serious interview with interview techniques. You only pass by showing knowledge of your field. If you don't have those skills and you pass anyway, then your new employer doesn't care about skills... welcome to hell in which you will be greeted by many clueless co-workers. ;-)
