Not necessarily al times But we used to convert most of the time. The bin size is usually depends on some domain knowledge. For example if there is age then it could be grouped as infant, teenager, adult, senior citizen something like this. Sometime we also create bins when we have very big numbers in millions. For examples number of transaction everyday on bank server. Then We can group down like below 1 mililion , 1-5 million or 5+million .
