Data Governance in International Economic Law

One of the most important and fast-changing areas in international economic law concerns digital trade. Novel bilateral digital economy agreements are proliferating even as countries erect new barriers to digital trade. Custom duties on electronic trade loom on the horizon as a 26-year-old moratorium is expiring. Members of the World Trade Organization continue to haggle over new electronic commerce rules against the backdrop of a world splintering into different spheres of data governance.
This lunch seminar will dive into these developments and scope the current state of research through the prism of Neha Mishra’s new book International Trade Law and Global Data Governance (Bloomsbury, 2024). The author will be joined by other accomplished scholars in the field to reflect on evolving research questions, methods, and perspectives in digital trade scholarship.
