For all those who are facing issues with Quarterly Panel data............. 1- Create ID variables for each i 2- for quarters use 1,2,3,4,5...... instead of 2010q1, 2010q2, 2010q3..... Stata will give the error "so many missing values" 3- then run the above code 4- After reshape, just convert the 1,2,3,4,5..... Year variables into quarters, simple ... Thanks

This is great in as far as it goes. But what about if you have irregular input - for example if one id has 7 data points per year and one id has 2, and none the next year. Can this conversion still happen?

Forget it! Stata data managment is hoplessly cumbersome! Consider that time series data you get from online databases will typically be ranked by a number representing a year. Stata is not able to interprete such a year number as a name. So you have to add somehow a letter to every year number... and so on... You will always end up doing all the necessary data preparations for stata by hand using a programm like excel. Given the technological capacity of computers that's quite ridiculous...
