for question 4 I like to add, it doesn't matter kung udemy ba yan or coursera. the fact is dapat u do the work. having certificates is not enough. employers don't know that u watched those videos. u have to do projects regardless kung sang MooCs mo nakuha yung knowledge

if you mean java itself, it's not optimized for data science. If you mean javascript, it's useful for making front end data platforms. imo switch to python! more optimized for data science

student from refocus here. yes there's a job guarantee within 12 months. if you havent got any experience, as in zero knowledge about excel, sql, python, power bi, then refocus is really really good. The customer service, community and instructors are great. However kung meron na, like in my case, nabore ako to the point that I stopped signing in to the lessons. No intention to brag po ha, pero I think the lessons were designed to be very easy and had me thinking "sobrang dali nito, malamang di ganito sa actual work"

I'm planning to career shift from manufacturing indusrty to data analys, nag paplanno sana ako mag take ng bootcamp para sa data analyst kaya lang kasi over 40 na ako (specifically 47 yrs 😆) kaya nag dadalwang isip na bka pag natapos ko ung bootcamp eh wala po mag-hire sa akin given din 2 years college undergrad pa me and I feel I'm too old na.

for question 7. that is NOT the reality here still in the philippines. sure maluwag in the US and other international countries but here in PH, traditional pa din mga HR dito. they still almost always require a degree

@@nixarts7034 nag start ako nung august. Namention kasi noong orientation na sa excel at sql lang basta mamaster mo, meron at merong mag hhire sayo. 80k original nila offer pero naging honest naman ako sa skillset at knowledge ko kaya ibinaba nila to 35.

actually the refocus bootcamp is about 50k net and for eskwelabs mga 62k. the former can have discounts and I can be down to 33k last time I checked. for eskwelabs, u can apply for a full tuition scholarship tho syempre u have to sign a contract and give back to the company by being a mentor/participate in events

we're actually on a similar boat. I graduated from eskwelabs but the offers I'm getting are subpar (like below 50k) but I'm already earning higher than that now. so not really worth it for me. plus u have to compete with fresh grads na mas lower yung expected salary but have 4-years of computer science and data science degrees now that may mga schools na like ust and mapua that offers those degrees.

Got a call from Refocus a few hours ago. I was quoted 81k for Data Analyst program. It’s 60% off from original cost of 204k according to them. I checked some available stats on salary trends in the Philippines for Data Analyst and vast majority appear to be between 30-50k per month. Depending on company location, market cap, etc. I used to work in Sales and Academe but in FinTech. Refocus seems to me very aggressive in selling their program. They probably have a decent program but the cost is a bit hard to swallow.

@@wfnicdao actually I got quoted 33k only last September 2022 (original was 40-50k). I guess they upped their cost but it's really not worth it. u can just learn from udemy, coursera courses for less than 10% of the amount

Hi Sir, I'm not agree po don sa sagot nyo sa Question 7. Kung need ba talaga ng degree. Para sakin pag nasa pinas ka mas priority nila ang degree holder. Sa inyo case kasi you've mentioned na may background ka sa data visualation before ka mag land sa Data Science. Good for you. Pero pag wala kang exp at hindi ka degree holder tas mag aapply sa Big Data sa Big Company 10% lang ang chance at napakahirap ang promotion at feel ko may discrimation ung mga di nakatapos ng degree. Dont focus yet on Big Company, they attract many talents thus mas competitive dun due to many applicants. Focus on startup or SMEs looking for DA. But i agree, degree is still a main filtering for many HR dito sa Pinas.

Hi Earl, siguro good to start yung fundamentals ng GIS. Like e.g. ano yung mga vector and raster data, projections, etc. If u know python already, try to explore geopandas as your starting library

Hello po Sir. currently working po ako sa surveying company and luckily yung knowledge or tasks ko ay under ng GIS (we're using 'RIEGL, Global Mapper, LIDAR Data, Orthophoto, and such but walang kahit anung coding na kasama). Ask ko lang po kung I pursue ko po ang GIS, what skills I must possess in order to shift into tech. (does learning geopandas / fuliom would work?)

I love Geopandas! Definitely a must-learn. Folium is also nice if you want a quick glance of your dataset. But I think there are some new geopython libraries na mas okay than folium, but folium is definitely good!

not really. u can communicate naman via writing a message via teams or slack. tho prefer is via call most of the times, and most companies do have report meetings, pero they usually delegate the lead or senior analyst. don't worry about it

Hi. Very nice and informative video. Ask ko lang po sana if here in the Philippines e malaking barrier kung nag start ka in data analytics in your 40's. Wala po kasi ako background in data work at sa IT pero gusto ko talaga mag shift ng career. Any info about this would be a great help. Right now, I'm learning SQL and tableau sa Udemy. And I have also signed up for the Tableau Desktop Specialist Certification Exam this March and the Power BI PL-300 exam in April. Pero iniisip ko kung mas malaki ang chance for employment kung sa mag e enrol ako sa Refocus.

but then u lose connections. mas ok sa local bootcamps they have job or interview guarantees. plus on datacamp it's very basic. I suggest u do both. Doing datacamp/dataquest on your free time, while also doing a local bootcamp. (that is if u have the money). plus doing portfolio work and ur good to go

Hi! Hmm you can also check yung comments ng iba dito sa videos ko. But based on some feedback, okay naman daw ang refocus. Ang alam ko though they teach MS Excel, SQL, and PowerBI. Although honestly ako I'm not a fan of using MS Excel and PowerBI when doing analysis but I guess it's okay if maliit lang ang dataset na ipaprocess.
