Thank you soooo much. I was taught logical is files and physical is table, and that made absolutly no sense. Your video explained it perfectly, now I know what they meant by it. Your amazing!

Conceptual data modeling is about establishing: entities, attributes and relationships. Search for er diagram symbols online. We need to use rectangle to represent entity. Ellipse to represent attributes. Diamond to represent relationship between two entities. Logical data modeling is independent of database system. It could be done with uml diagram tools like umbrello, staruml etc. Use uml entity relationship diagram. Physical data modeling is database system dependent.

Hello Yuvaraj. Thank you for sharing your different perspective. Your definition is correct, but I feel it is more academic. The intention of this video is to introduce a viewer on the 3 phases of Data Modeling, and not necessarily get into the finer details of the shape that should be used. Perhaps I will cover that in future videos. This video is more in line with usage of a Data Modeling tool like PowerDesigner. My hope is that after viewing this video, the viewer is now aware of the 3 phases, and appreciate it's need. After there onwards, the viewer is encouraged to learn further on the design part, exactly as you described.

Thank you for your explanation on data models sir♥️ I have a few question regarding the relationship between ER diagrams and Data Models. 1. So in ER mapping what we are generally doing is converting the ER diagram into a physical data model ? 2. Is it suitable to convert an ER digram to conceptual model -->logical model and finally into physical model? 3. Normalization is only possible for the physical data model ? Thank you again for the explaination.
@DataAcademyIN4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Here are the answers to your questions 1) The 3 phases that I have discussed about is not only specific to ER modeling, but is applicable to any "type" of data model. So, yes we can say that we convert the ER Diagram (Logical Model) into a Physical Data Model. 2) An ER Diagram is equivalent to a Logical Data Model. Hence there is no question of converting a ER Diagram to a Conceptual or a Logical Data Model 3) Normalization should happen at Logical Data Model itself. Otherwise you cannot get the benefit of automatically converting a Logical Data Model to a Physical Data Model, using a Data Modeling tool. Hope these answers help. Let me know if any further questions. Thanks !

Hello Shaibal - There are options in the Data Modeling tool to hide/display the cardinality between tables. They were turned off while taking the screenshots.

I'm a little bit confused. At what point do you add the "Decision Diamonds"? Currently studying for an assignment on this and trying to get my head around it...
@DataAcademyIN2 жыл бұрын
Apologies for the delay in responding. I don't think "Decision Diamonds" are relevant in Data Modeling. I could be wrong though. Any specific reference would help me understand it ?

Hello Zhanas. Apologies for the delay in responding, but I do not have the slide with me. I lost it during my laptop crash. A quick way to recreate this maybe is to take screenshots from the video, and insert them into a PPT. I know it is not an easy thing to do, but it may be the only thing possible.
