Starfishes, axolotls,narwhals,dolphins and whales are not fish. First of all, starfishes are enchinoderms,related to sea urchins and sea cucumbers. Second of all, axolotls are amphibians, which are basically fish that went on land. Third of all,whales and dolphins are cetaceans,a group of fish like mammals that have evolved to live in the sea. You can tell the difference between whales and fish by their tail and the blowholes on the head. The blowhole is the whale's nose. You could also have included Otodus Megalodon cause that's a real fish too.

You’re right on somethings: (1) Starfishes are echinoderms, and echinoderms are not fish; (2) Axolotls are amphibians, and amphibians are fish; (3) Cetaceans are mammals… But aren’t mammals just a diversification of fishes to begin with? (4) Megalodon are fish. They’re chondrichthyes, which are cartilaginous fish, different than the bony fish that evolved for a life on land. So, that makes you more closely related to a trout than a trout is to a shark. And you still call both a trout and a shark fishes, but not you. Isn’t that funny? 😉

Linnaeus grouped living beings exclusively taking into account their common traits, which led to a lot of mistakes, since evolutionary convergences “trick” the linnaean system. And you’re making stuff up. There was no “removal”, just correlation. The clade of all fishes has always been called gnathostomata (the clade of the jawed vertebrates). Fish is not the name of the clade, just like “whales” or “monkeys” are not the names of any clade. But there’s a clade of whales, which is _cetacea,_ and there’s a clade of monkeys, which is _primates._ Cetacea is the clade of whales, primates is the clade of monkeys and gnathostomata is the clade of fishes. Whales, monkeys and fishes are not (and were never) scientific terms, but they can be correlated to those groups of animals. Get it? When biologists like Stephen Jay Gould say that “there’s no such thing as a fish”, that’s exactly what they mean: either we’re all fish, or fish don’t exist. There’s no problem with fish existing.
