Watch out for the errors in this course, though! Incorrectly referenced Primary Key-Foreign Keys in tables, loads of typos etc - I submitted loads of reports for content improvement. I unenrolled on Coursera because the platform incorrectly marked my correct MySQL syntax as incorrect (when it was pasted into an input field on a test), even though it executed perfectly in the console and outputted the desired tables. As it's now free on KZbin, I'll continue with the course when I get time. Thanks for the upload Nerd's Lesson!

It happened with me when i was taking google's ux design. It is was a bug on Coursera. Later on, everything went on right.

@gavinkalaher7314 Жыл бұрын
@@infotration2225 it's a worthwhile course, especially as it's free on here. Understanding relationnal databases, first/second/third normal form etc is very important in SWE and data fields. I'd recommend downloading and becoming familiar with PostgreSQL and Jupyter Noteooks (rather than MySQL).

@DellAnderson8 ай бұрын
Very glad to find this informative course. If they ever recreate it (so far don't see a need for redoing as most major errors appear to be fixed by voice overs), but perhaps linger a bit longer on the presentations screens and less on video of speaker (I don't really care what he looks like!). And perhaps actually summarize each section with concise summaries rather than thinly disguised quizzes asking us "You should be able to define the term database schema", and then say "Well Done" without checking and confirming your answer or understanding. Especially when this 'summary' is presented several sections later than the term was defined. Leaves the viewer a bit uneasy whether they have learned everything properly. They may have the idea of what a schema is, or what 'partial dependency' is, but definitions can be tricky to put into words until one truly understands and works with material for a while, which is unlikely the first time thru a course like this.

The presentation is good. There may be errors here and there but that does not dismiss the work presented. There are always updates. I am waiting for the update that will take care of the cited mistakes (They take us to the next level).

8:31:27 -> Mistake: Using functions on columns that aren't indexed. 8:31:39 -> You should also avoid using functions on columns that are indexed as this could cause the database not to use the index. So where should the functions be used in the where clause?

@Roshan-rd9rh Жыл бұрын
You'll find the perfect answer on google.
@Dr460n4ir3 Жыл бұрын
Google is your best friend as a programmer. However a Database Engineer is normally responsible for building a database. This means setting the tables, the schema, relationships in the database etc for you application. Data Engineers focus on using the data found in existing databases or data sets. This can mean sorting data, creating graphs, analyzing data for patterns etc. They are similar but different with some overlap. Do some more research on the differences but hopefully this helps paint a better picture. Cheers!
