How to teach database sharding to a "kamwali bayi" or "kamwala baya". Tell him/her to solve the problem of forgetting where things are you need to keep 26 baskets each marked with A to Z and put salt in S basket, sugar in S basket, garam masala in G basket and so on. After few days he/she complains there are so many empty baskets are lying around the kitchen while others are overloaded as there nothing in kitchen starting with letter Z and so many things in the kitchen starting with S. So you give him or her a realme tablet which returns a consistent lucky number every time he/she asks for an item. Let's say we want the tablet to return lucky numbers only between 0 and 3(inclusive) since we only plan to keep 4 baskets. While storing into the basket he/she will ask the tablet "Hey tablet where is the salt?" and tablet will reply lets say 2, he/she stores the salt in basket 2, next time when he/she needs to find the salt he/she will again ask "Hey tablet where is the salt?" and tablet will tell exactly where it is.
