Database Structure for Messaging Application
messaging application, The features I want to provide are:
Sending a message to multiple people
Receiving message sent to a user
Showing message in groups divided by the users, Like in facebook message
But when a user will send a message to multiple people, It will not be a group message but those messages will go in groups divided by users

if you are using clustered indexes it is better to have one index in (user_id, id) since it will group all messages for same user together, improving data retrieval performance. Inserts would be a bit slowed down, though, due to page splits, so u need to benchmark it.

Why use all these 'uid' columns, you can just directly reference the primary key (id) on the foreign table. Otherwise, looks great.

How do you know who a user is having a conversation with when you get the list for inbox last_sent_user_id might just be the user's id

why does the inbox_uid foreign key in messages table have its data type as binary?
