Haha.. that acting, it's like a Tim and Eric skit. When I did TV production at High School in the mid 90's, we did stuff like this all the time (sent out on assignments all over the school). I still have my Archive tape of all my footage and B-roll. Almost worthy of capturing and uploading it for a laugh.

Very special, thanks Mr. Databits! Also the SGI computers and monitors in the footage are very special; expensive stuff back then.

They are not cheap to buy used today either! Not as extremely expensive as when new but certainly not thrift store stuff either. They are collectible now, which is natural as they were never plentiful to start with. That place in the video certainly had a hefty budget... which did not exactly translate into results in that particular instance 😁

Pretty cool. I have not seen the DV Cam version before. I do have a JVC miniDV camera purchased in 2000/2001. I guess I need to revisit those old tapes to see what is on them haha.

We had these in the machine room at the post facility I worked at. These were already getting obsolete when I started but the more dvcpro hd was the standard at the time. If memory serves correctly, you could put a dvcam tape in a dvcpro hd machine and it would upconvert it

I've always wanted one of these to easily capture my minidv and dvcam tapes I have spanning the past 20 years. Most of these decks on eBay are completely destroyed, have worn out heads or other issues. I've been trying to find a nice, working one for a long time.

Love that I'm seeing videos surrounding DV and miniDV components, especially more recent ones. I've been windowshopping a VCR so I don't have to use my camcorder as a VCR when it's time to capture footage on my computer. I wonder if this cassette mechanism is used in a similar fashion in the professional Sony DV/miniDV cameras

The footage was in two parts First of all we see the various video scenes, after which they would edit each together with a voiceover. The second stage we see them recording the voiceover. Here the camera is just running, I expect they are recording into the microphone on the pc. Your players have a microphone input to allow you to add the voiceovers. You can do the same with minidv camcorders as long as you switch to 12bit audio mode which leaves 8 bits for a separate voiceover channel. If you dont do that and keep the 16 bit audio on tape then youd have to add voiceover etc in the NLE. Lol for the wooden acting

Yes! I guessed how the VCR would play the little tapes by squeezing the spindles inwards! Loved that video at the end lol I love finding things like that in random places!

Nice! That format looks cool, had MiniDV personally at home, but missed DVCAM PRO entirely. Back when I was in high school, we were lugging around U-Matic equipment or making Super8 films. I will have to find & post the stern memo to the class from the teacher who overheard the stunts the class was planning, such as jumping from one moving car to another...
