Why would a carrier tell you about IMSI catchers if they are in bed with three letter agencies that are USING them? Conflict of interest. Remember that Snowden guy? Things have gotten MUCH worse since that.

I use to work for a US Telecom with obviously access to where exactly our towers are and what ID's they produce. This was the only way I was able to detect that my phone was grabbing on to one.

It's actually incredibly easy to detect if a cell site simulator is connected to your phone. My local cops absolutely hate me because I've learned to detect this. If your in an area that has a cell tower nearby, and your reception is usually full bars, but you are receiving half or one bar, then you are connected. If you are at half bars then they are only seeing what is on your screen and accessing your microphone. if you are at one bar then they are accessing your camera too. I want to share how to detect this with everyone. If there are any pissed off feds reading this, you can thank the Plattsburgh City Police in New York for leaking this information out.

Actually many phones downgrade to 3g when a call comes in Durning data transmission. So that's one way they probably do downgrade attacks. Ppl should be more alarmed about criminals using imsi catchers then about Leo's using them. The cops aren't after you unless your doing something wrong. Criminals don't care they'd use these devices to rob your bank accounts and to stalk you and your girlfriend. Lmao

In these rural areas the land stealing is a nightmare. Forcing elderly in nursing homes or mental health facilities!!! Especially in central Illinois. Hello. If a mobile device has been subject to an imsi catcher ? Does this device send things to see what the mobile device is writing or watching for example? I read it gets the imei as well. So, if the target mobile moves outside this area that the hacker is using this catcher , will it be safe now from the hacking? Thank u and waiting

No. It can only operate within the radius of the imsi catcher after it is out of range it won't work

Excuse my ignorance on the subject, but can these (or similar devices) be used for intercepting/jamming a home wifi network or an individual computer/laptop? Or do they only work for mobile/cell-phone networks? ie. could something like this be used to trick my laptop into thinking it's connected directly to my home wifi router, but in reality it is actually connecting to a nearby interceptor/man-in-the-middle, (in the same way that wifi extenders do) and then onto my router after that?

If you are close to your router it is a little hard, but if the signal strength of your neighbor or a roomate is higher than your router...than yes.

You can't. The communication between your phone, your sim card and the towers are baked into the phone hardware itself, and as of now they are not design to be protected by encryption
