i think i heard her say she spent time in italy and in italian there's no rolled r's. if perro had an equivalent in italian (it doesn't, the word for dog is cane) it would be distinguished primarily by the final o, as the Italian cognate of pero is però which places more stress on the o. so, you can think of it as something like an Italian accent.
