Icelandic men are kinda like Danish and Norwegian men. I am actually Estonian but grew up in Denmark but I love Scandinavian men better than Estonian men every time I visit my grandparents in Estonia they remind me why their attitudes are different also Nordic men are better looking like yeah every where has good looking people but I typically like the finer features on Danish men than Estonian men. I personally would not date someone much older than me but you never know who you meet. Tabitha you’re really pretty and so soft spoken and sweet someone is lucky if they get you.
@TabithaLaker6 жыл бұрын
I quite like Scandinavian men too. As for dating older men, I have tried and it's kind of tricky. With age comes alot of baggage - emotional hurt, kids etc etc. As someone who hasn't dated alot, I don't have enough baggage to match up to it. And baggage helps shape your experiences and desires. No harm in dating younger if a good guy comes your way :) - then again, you never know who you will meet. & Thank you for your kind compliment Eva :)
@evathegirlnextdoor94026 жыл бұрын
Tabitha Laker You never know who you fall head over heels for but yeah older men some have baggage. I think for someone who hasn’t dated much should date people in a similar age group like me I am 24 and my boyfriend is Swedish and 23 dating a younger guy is good they are a little more open and modern.My experience in Scandinavia is that a lot of men can be shy some can be afraid to approach women and some like when women approach them like in Sweden the women sometimes approach men even here in Denmark they do. My advice(doesn’t work for everyone but it worked for me) is sometimes the really good looking men are the really shy ones and don’t know they are good looking they are the ones to approach like when I approached my current boyfriend he turned so red blushing that someone approached them and it turned into a good relationship we have been together for 2 years. You never know where you meet men online, on the bus, at work, college etc. I meet my man at a coffeehouse in Stockholm. I hope this helps.
@TabithaLaker6 жыл бұрын
Hey again Eva, sorry for my late reply. I can approach a man initially but I don't want it to become the ongoing theme in a relationship where if I don't chase him he will never chase me - That's why I would rather be approached first. I know there are exceptions such as in your case but one of the qualities I look for in a man is assertiveness. Nevertheless, it takes two to make a relationship work so I just hope I find someone I can make it work with.

neat video.. So funny that Tinder thing..so many ppl used that while I was traveling and I never did..Hahaha.. Interestingly I came across this video and recently met a beautiful Icelandic man while I was in another country visiting and let me just say wow... Very surprised.. We keep in touch and who knows... The open mind thing is so important .. Thanks for sharing
@TabithaLaker2 жыл бұрын
Tinder can be alright sometimes. Many have even met their spouses there. But I wouldn't go back 😂 Back in those days when I used to set my Tinder to another country, it was because the men in England seemed to use it to hook up only and could never commit to a normal conversation. Many would either fetishi$e or be outright raci$t.... When I started setting location elsewhere, it was somewhat a different story. They just 'seemed' nicer. Here in London there is an abundance of attractive black women so black women (often)get taken for granted by all races. Maybe the reason they seem nice abroad is because they don't often get the chance to interact with black women so when they meet on a dating app they are on their 'best' behaviour. Just an Idea lol An open mind is great but it has to be on both sides. When you are in a foreign land, it is often the foreigner to conform to the local culture and you have to be prepared to do it, otherwise the relationship won't work. I hope it works out for you with the man you have met. Keep in touch and who knows. Would be a wondeful love story 💖

It's very strange. Do the men there like ethnic looking women? it's something i've noticed in general about nordic guys.... but idk maybe its in my head ? Has any other ethnic woman noticed this?
@TabithaLaker3 жыл бұрын
I think they like (the look of) anyone attractive whatever ethnicity they may be. I cannot say that they, in general, like ethnic/exotic looking women because they also love their own. The motivation behind what they actually want from you is something else to ponder on... so in conclusion, don't assume, have conversations with them when you get the chance 😀

Guide504 great time hear your wife is your best friend. That’s how is should be 😊
@Guide5044 жыл бұрын
@@TabithaLaker I think that is the issue with so many youngsters. In successful marriages you have to be best friends and to differentiate 'types' of relationship misses the point that it must be both romantic and a deep best friendship.The flush of a young romantic relationship is wonerful and exciting but to last there has to be the deepest of friendships at the core to survive the difficulties of life. Those moments when you just don't like each other very much! Or chasing faeces around a birthing pool when your wife deficates giving birth. Or delivering your second baby cos the midwife didn't turn up then wrapping the child and wondering why your wife is slipping away from you only to look down at the bed and and realise she is bleeding out and you got to get yr shit together to keep her RIGHT NOW! You've got to be the best of friends when stuff is hard and both of you are rough around the edges, in order to give eachother a sideways glance and be playful as you were all the time in the beginning. Time will try and take everything from you but with your best friend, honesty and absolute trust the worst day will be the first day in your last days alone. Together we are more than just two people and without her and our time together I would be much less than I am today. You are a beautiful girl outwardly, if you are as beautiful and courageous on the inside you will I'm sure find someone equally worthy to share this brief time on earth with, who knows maybe you already have. I first went to Iceland 18 years ago to work and I have seen many great changes in that time...it is my forever place. We are looking at buying a summerhouse there when the kids go to university.

I love that you took the time to share the perspective of a woman of color dating in Iceland but unless I missed it I didn’t really get any tips? Is the bottom line to just be open and keep expectations low when meeting an Icelandic man? Or just go for it? I’ll be visiting in May and I’m curious as to what the singles scene in Iceland is like?
@TabithaLaker4 жыл бұрын
Wow, I am so sorry this comment reply is coming late. I remember seeing your comment and actually thought I had replied. The purpose of this video was to just share our real life experiences. However, I think you have pretty much summed it up - (some)Icelandic men don't really like to promise too much to a woman up front. They prefer to build a ‘friendship’(often romantic friendship/no label) and see where it goes. I guess you could say this is keeping expectations low if you want to date with purpose. That can get a little uncomfortable if you aren't used to this dating style. I personally find blurred lines quite frustrating. Of course this might be a way for those men to figure out if they are interested in you, but in that case I would just keep it as a friendship and continue dating other men until they can make a decision or you meet someone else. There are, however, upfront Icelandic guys who are straight forward and honest about their long term vision for a relationship (hookup or serious) & specifically a relationship with YOU if they happen to like you enough to be able to see you in their long term future. The best way to find out is to date them (without compromising your integral values and desires) and NEVER skip on the communication otherwise you could be in for a SERIOUS heartbreak. And always remember at the end of the day Icelandic men are just Men. Another tip would be to make sure he is open to dating a black woman seriously, because some of them hide it and later on you find out it he is doing it in secret for experimental purposes (this is the truth). If he invites you to meet his friends, takes you out in public, shows a deep respect and interest towards your culture and faith you could have a keeper 🤗 There really are some good guys out there. I wish you the best (/Hope you had a good visit in May).

I was wondering what on earth the dislikes were about but judging from a couple of comments here, it looks like some people just read the title, read it all wrong and left a dislike without having any idea what the video is actually about. I'm not sure how I ended up watching this, even though I'm an Icelandic man (KZbin autoplay is a thing of mystery) but I found the conversation real interesting.
@TabithaLaker4 жыл бұрын
I think you are right. People saw the title and jumped to conclusions - either 1) they were dissapointed that we didn't give a step by step guide or 2) upset because we aren't "sticking to our own" or 3) upset because the Icelandic population is already quite small therefore the local men should be left to the local women...I don't know. As someone who was genguinely interested in meeting someone there, I just thought it would be an interesting conversation to have and share. I am happy you found it interesting 😊

I been to Iceland few times and fell in love with the nature side of the country, it’s magical just not too sure about the weather as well as living there and the social aspect of it. How’s it it living there, making friends as an adult could daunting..
@TabithaLaker6 жыл бұрын
Hey Samira 😊 thanks for sharing. Glad you enjoyed this video. As for moving to Iceland, it's good you already love the nature. Making friends in Iceland is vital. Winters are long and dark it is very important to be surrounded by good company. As long as you are open, you will find friends. Most people (even Icelanders) tend to find winter particularly difficult, but as long as you have friends you'll be OK. And, I'm sure your boyfriend would introduce you to his people - With that, it should be quite easy for you to integrate yourself and make more connections. If you plan on working here too, you will also find people in your workplace that you could be friends with. What I'm saying is don't worry about that aspect too much...As long as you are willing to make it work, it will work 😊 And London is only a 3 hour plane ride away!

I actually asked a couple of my Icelandic male friends - 1st one said - to go with your gut feeling, it's helpful to be together face to face because you can actually hang out and get a feel for what he is about. Go for dates and walks etc etc. I also asked my girl friend who is married to an Icelandic guy and she said they spent time together to figure out if they match. So it seems like it's all about 'being there' in person. Of course if you cannot meet in person yet, you can only hope they are being genuine. Hope that helps.

Yeah all Icelandic people are related. They actually have a database called íslendingabók where everyone Icelandic is registered. They can check their degree of relation with the people they meet/want to date. I did ask someone how they conduct themselves with the issue of being related & they said: They don't actually check that database because if they know someone is family, they would have met them before or at least know of them, if not, then it's obvious they are not that closely related. When it comes to Interracial dating, of course that is different and quite rare matter.

Yup, it's that simple. Of course, the closer you are related the more dangerous it is to procreate, but I am guessing this is taught at school. I think it's safe to say, that in Iceland, they tend to be more distantly related compared to other communities around the world who actively practice marrying close to home. Where my parents are from in Uganda, they ALWAYS ask around and check to make sure they are absolutely NOT related because that would be a damn shame according to the culture, and pretty akward if you ask me 😄 Glad you are excited for Iceland!! Mystery Universe I’ve never seen a black woman look at black men as beneath them. Usually they’re just minding their own business then a black man comes along - hurt and offended and tries to tear her down. Then, she responds. It happens to me especially because I’ve ventured out to live in different countries. Even when I mentioned liking snow in winter (nothing to do with dating) black men attacked me on the internet. I don’t need that drama. I say, go where you are loved and celebrated. Once you have the right attitude, all women will be attracted to you regardless of your colour. You don’t need every black woman to love you, just 1.
@TabithaLaker4 жыл бұрын
Mystery Universe a lot of black women feel unwanted by black men too unfortunately. Gorgeous beautiful women. I’ve never experienced that because I’ve always been open minded. I think the rejection feels more apparent when it’s your preference rejecting you. I understand that it’s super hurtful, but the key is to keep your dignity and self respect. Keep learning about yourself and others, be kind, build your confidence and favour will eventually find you.

@@TabithaLaker Thank you Tabitha, for your prompt reply, I was just watching something on Netflix's re Iceland, which I have to say looks beautiful. Your video came up. I watched that and another video of yours came up and i swallowed hard.. Why do we have to talk about amother culture male or female like they are a foriegn species. Is what came to mind, especially in this climate. Where black people have to fight to be accepted as simply being human! When you give your authentic self you either gel or not, be true to you. And what comes comes. With your explation I will come back to your video later but thanks again for the explanation. 👌🏼
@princessag5843 жыл бұрын
Enjoyed your video but I see you did not talk about the interracial aspect. Is it not generally accepted ? Also there must be men of other nationalities you could pursue? It just seems to me you are limiting your horizons by stipulating an Icelandic man. No shade.
@TabithaLaker3 жыл бұрын
Well, after my life experience there. I can see from my friends that the interracial aspect is generally accepted and normal. Based on the content of this video, I thought that would be obvious. Maybe that is a point to make clear, if I ever make a similar video. That being said, there are some people who would definitely never date or marry a black person, who is also non-Icelandic speaking. That is the reality. There is actually nothing wrong having those preferences in place, but the problem arises when they 'like' you, but cannot be with you because their friends and family wouldn't approve. You have to be pretty unlucky to meet someone like this - meaning, it's rare. However, this relationship dynamic can be found in every country the world. Even within black relationships. Tribal differences, East vs West, Light skin vs Dark skin ETC ETC ETC. If you are genuinely interested in finding someone there, try to weed those people out as soon as possible. If you ask, they will tell you the truth. I love that honesty because it can help you make decisions sooner and avoid wasting time. This video was filmed 3 years ago (check the date) when I was actually living in Iceland. Although I mostly met Icelanders, I did not limit myself. Try to understand the context. If you were single and living in a foreign country, wouldn't you try to understand the culture and people? Or not? Anyway, it's not my preference or a requirement to be with an Icelandic man. I am more interested in a good character and other important qualities. But I wouldn't discourage anyone from going for the type of man or woman they truly desire! They are the one that has to live with them after all and obviously have their reasons for wanting what they want. Whether those people people want them back in return is another question.

I was very focused on the topic actually. I looked distracted because we weren't alone in the apartment and sometimes not the living room where we filmed. The second reason I may look distracted is because I was mostly facing Jewells while she spoke as opposed to the camera lens. When someone is speaking to me, I think it's important to look at them and engage; However, while filming, it's a little difficult to strike a good balance between looking at the lens then the person you are talking & filming with.
