No hate to meghan, she's really funny and is obviously trying to relate with her heart in the right place... but I really wanna see the footage of jack & amy talking about this convo after meghan hung up oop lol

i know this show is supposed to have straight guests and that was originally the whole entire point, but i just love the episodes with elle/alexis/rebecca/cammie SO much more. this one had so many awkward pauses and idk why meghan felt the need to prove how much she just ~loves gay people~ like they’re entertainment for her
@itsgivingbougie4 жыл бұрын
jasmine bishop she genuinely does and is an active ally. If you knew her, you’d know. Take a look at her twitter if you want an idea of what she’s like and what she believes in.

Anthony i have actually known of meghan for quite a while and actively watched her on clever, but she can be perceived quite badly in this podcast & needs to learn how to phrase her support in a way that doesn’t feel condescending or fetishised.
@liviameridi94824 жыл бұрын
I agree, I had a look at her Twitter after the podcast and she really seems keen to be an ally, she just needs to educate herself a bit more about queer culture and reflect about what she says
@asdfhun4 жыл бұрын
I believe the akward pauses had nothing to do with her, it was because they were in three different locations, could barely see eachother on a tiny screen, they've probably never met in person, so it's obvious they have a different dynamic than with their long time friends. Also they had to deal with the skype/zoom lag too (count how many times Amy and Jack starts to speak at the same time). And not to thow him under the bus, but almost all the akward pauses were induced by Jack, he started to say something (so Amy didn't) then he stopped. In a group conversation you don't take a big breath and raise the mic to your mouth (signalling to everyone else that you have something to say), when you actually don't know what to say/how to continue, resulting an akward silence.

I hate it when possible future podcast guests are ruled out coz of tea that happened
@lauren34494 жыл бұрын
Haleigh amy used to live with chris and andrew. I dont think theres any deep tea, if youve ever lived with anyone, it can just cause a deep rooted hatred of the way people act. I think they will get over it in a few years. Amy said there was no hard feelings, she was just meant to live alone. I think it was because they were too messy, and chris made it all smell like weed 24/7 (which is rude). Just roommate tea.

In my opinion there were no bad intensions here but the whole ~"i wish i was gay", "my boyfriend would love that"~ was so cringy to me. Keep in mind that we don't all come from such accepting places (like LA) so it's kinda awkward and ignorant when srtaight ppl talk like that

This episode has inspired me to write a list of things I don't like hearing people say about or to gay people: -"I love gay people": sure, gay people are one entity, all the same and we do not have individual identities whatsover. -"I wished I was gay" 11:10 : ........... ........... .......... STRAIGHT PRIVILEDGEEEEEEE!!!! -"I feel bad for you, miserable gay person, because I have power on you when I kiss you" 11:37 : if you are a girl and (used to) like kissing girls, spare your pity as you are not so 100% straight m'am -"my boyfriend would love it if I fell for a girl" 12:01 : it's so cool when people sexualize lesbians and invalidate our relationships so we can steal all the girls we want
@hellaur624 жыл бұрын
i wrote a similar list and i dmed her and she apologized (its on her twitter) but still dont know how i feel about it since she still said those things and said a few of them before

Amy and Jack, the word you were both looking for for women who are drag queens is either hyper queens or bio queens, though the latter isn't used by everyone because some feel it excludes trans and non-binary people :) I'm actually a woman who does drag, and I honestly just like the term "drag queen", because theres no difference between us and our cis male counterparts 🙈 Drag has evolved so much and it's disappointing to see shows like drag race only represent one type of queen when local drag scenes are filled with talent across the gender spectrum ☺️ If youre still confused on what a hyperqueen or female drag queen looks like in drag, and what exactly we do, you're more than welcome to check out my IG, @hermenathekween 💜

@liviameridi94824 жыл бұрын
@@ryla157 yeah of course she is not homophobic nor anything, and her intentions are obviously good, but I feel she was not realising exactly the more subtle implications of what she was saying sometimes...like involuntarily stereotyping/fetishizing gay people, indirectly denying the marginalization oppressing us worldwide (by saying she wished she was gay), sexualizing lesbians, and showing that kind of pity that might rather reinforce power unbalances....these kinds of attitudes towards marginalized communities are quite tricky usually, and I feel it is always important to point them out in order to help our allies support us in the best way possible

Well someone was still offended and she apologized (genuinely) on twitter. I do think she was very adamant about clarifying things when something was mentioned that could seem problematic/a behaviour from when she was in high school that has been unlearned. But someone could still take it differently.
