This match was bogus. Daton stalls every match and just defends. He never gets hit with stalling.

Colin Krieger please explain where Yianni would get a stall call? He’s taken multiple shots in every period of the match

Yeah, like Yanni taking the last shot at the end of the match which scored him the takedown. lol

They're both in high school at that point. I doubt there are any of the top five wrestlers at the ten weight classes in college--maybe bar heavyweight--that weren't "ultra-offensive" in high school. The only times those guys ever got challenged were either at a prestigious tournament, like the Iron Man, or maybe in a state that eats and breathes wrestling. It's very likely that Fix won 80% of his high school matches by bonus points. And I saw a few of his high school matches. Don't get me wrong, one could tell he wasn't a great technical offensive wrestler, but he threw his opponents around like rag dolls and pinned them when he had enough.
@misterwonderful86285 жыл бұрын
@@znhait The Fix caveman mindset is very fun to watch...agreed. Biggest strength Yanni has here, and still, is being a worm below the waist...shoot and then what? Yet Yanni is a great wrestler also.. Mastering upper body throws to pin combinations and he can be beaten much easier than relying on leg take downs...arm drags, shucks...forget pancakes...plus, look at Yanni's mommy! Woot woot!

I personally don’t like the no singlet thing. I rather wear a singlet personally. During practice wearing shorts and shirts feels so heavy in my opinion.
@KM05_5 жыл бұрын
Their gear is performance based. Lightweight under armour shirt and shorts.
@brattygoblin82645 жыл бұрын
I always thought wearing a singlet felt more compressive and restrictive than shorts/shirt. Then again, maybe I just felt more comfortable in shorts/shirt because that's what I always practiced in. I think it would be cool to have a singlet that is separated at the waste like shorts/shirt are.
@animangafan3425 жыл бұрын
It doesn't look like a match without the singlets. that feeling of wearing singlet is memorable. every time u wear it, u knw ur gonna go into a dual match or to that 12 hr tourney. Shorts and shirts r for summer practice when ur not cutting weight. Sweatpants and sweatshirts for in-season practice. it doesn't look like a wrestling match without it.

I gotta agree. Though that was a great match, it's tough to watch one wrestler do most of the work, come close to scoring (whether it's called or not), and after exhaustion the other guy has the saved energy to blast for the only points needed to win. I get that in sports we sometimes see strategy that doesn't break the rules and is considered "clever" because they actually planned to let the opponent get tired before scoring, and it happens in more than just one-on-one events. In track we see it especially in the long distance running. However, I see it as kind of shady and cheap. Nobody can read another's mind, so it doesn't always work to stay just above stalling until they get a chance, but it more than suggests they KNOW they might need to wait until the opponent gets tired, because they know that opponent is actually better or too good to beat with just skill vs. skill. At this level, I see most of these guys as able to beat each other on the right day, so I'm not suggesting Yianni would have always beaten Daton without the "survive until he's tired" approach, but I do remember Yianni completely dominating him in a freestyle match, I think the they were even younger. I'm impressed with Fix, but I usually am more impressed with anybody who's been ahead and others are learning how to catch up and beat them. Of course they will eventually get beat like above if they keep competing, but it usually happens after everybody has studied everything they do and have taken thousands of bites out of them over the years. They are also fresh with their own techniques, and it just seems easier for them to focus their guns on what Yianni does than it is for Yianni to predict each one of the challengers threats.

I wouldn't compare wrestling to other sports. In track, there are no referees and the only way to win is to run faster than your opponents. In baseball, a pitcher cannot "stall" because he throws four balls, he's punished for it. In basketball, a team can slow down the tempo only when on offense, and the same applies to football. In wrestling, if the ref isn't calling stalling, a good defensive wrestler can always stay in a match by tying up his opponents to where the ref has to call stalemate. Points are awarded for shots taken or for controlling the center of the mat. As long as an opponent can get a stalemate, go out of bounds, etc., he won't give up any points.

This is why I call him "defensive daton." If this man would take more shots he'd be unstoppable. Yeah the Suriano and RBY matches are good... but if this dude would actually just shoot 2-3 times the match wouldn't even be close and would have a completely different outcome.
