this episode just proved that penny was right all along: her younger siblings were favored over her and she would always be put second for them, whether it be sacrificing too many things to take care of them as babies or being treated like trash for being "less than" when theyre teens

I actually liked this episode because I’m a sucker for seeing characters aged-up, like on Rugrats: All Growed Up and seeing people draw characters older on Tumblr and Instagram. But, I never thought about how this Proud Family episode played out in such a weird way. It could’ve been just a cute episode of Penny hanging out with her aged-up siblings and then getting more involved in helping raise them as babies, instead of a “be careful what you wish for” episode. The body-checking comments by Penny’s family were so uncalled for 😭

Growing up, I had an odd dynamic with having to look after my older sister. She was completely capable of taking care of herself but my parents thought she was too immature to deal with everything herself and she was in the same grade as me from kindergarten through school due to birthdays and school start dates. I was the one the teachers went to when she was being an issue in class or her classmates if she was being a bully. I became her keeper. I never got to be just me. I was always forced to put her above me. My parents even bought us clothes that were practically the same except for color because we were in the same grade and SHE wanted it. Parents need to treat all their kids the same and never pressure them into looking after each other unless absolutely necessary. It's not exactly the same thing, but it feels so similar to me

I definitely would've like it more if the reboot was Penny and her friends in college and BeBe and CeCe in middle school. I think there could be way more interesting topics for each. Like for example, CeCe's body is changing and she notices that boys are starting to like her, she goes to Penny for advice on who to choose and Penny tells her that those boys don't like her for her and that she should choose a boy that likes her character and respects her. CeCe tells Penny that she's jealous and storms off. Later on CeCe realizes that Penny is right and they reconcile. The creators could really make BeBe and CeCe more fleshed out and interesting characters. I'm also not a big fan of CeCe's deaign in this episode, she doesn't really resemble the Prouds that much. I think BeBe's design is fine.

As much of the humor come from characters ragging on each other, everyone in this episode was mean to the point of just seeming like completely different characters. It's also weird how the twins are getting crushed on and it's like....ya'll they were infants 2 min ago. But mostly I was thinking the point of the "Be Careful What You Wish For" plot is meant to show the grass isn't always greener and the person who made the wish has to learn a lesson. Maybe if Penny was actually being mean, not wanting to spend time with them cause they're babies and it's "lame" to have your kid siblings hanging around, but then the aged up twins turn that back on her to get back at her for treating them like pests in a "See? It doesn't feel so great when the shoes on the other foot" or something. Shoot, Everybody Hates Chris did a better job with a thing about him always having to look out for his little sister and the episode ends with as much as she gets on his nerves, they do care about each other. And that show regularly does Chris dirty like how Penny got treated in this one episode.

Honestly, I think the proud family would be more interesting if it had starred Bebe and Cece as modern young adults along with lessons that pertain to this generation while its chock full of references to the original show. Penny could be the cool adult older sister the twins could seek advice from, when Oscar and Trudy inevitably run into blind spots. The writing team seems adamant about keeping the original friendship dynamic Penny has no matter the iteration. So, hypothetically, the writers would have a chance to put a spin on it. Based on this episode, Bebe and Cece have a more blunt and carefree disposition compared to Penny's friendly yet stern demeanor. There could be an entire character arc about Bebe and Cece becoming less shallow and finding friends who like them for who they are instead of their popularity. *This topic has me brainstorming about a series that would never exist* 😭

Interesting fact, BeBe was voiced by the guy that played the titular Famous Jet Jackson. Rip Lee Thompson Young. I hate that he took his own life. I just edited my post because I was wrong about Lee's cause of death. I am surprised IMDB gave this episode a 7.1/10; it deserves a way lower rating, especially with how mean-spirited this episode is towards Penny. Yeah, Penny shouldn't have wished that her siblings were old enough to look after themselves, I get you, episode! However, Penny made that wish like Timmy Turner does, because they are always frustrated due to all of the adults in their lives being complete pricks. "A Wishful Life" is an infamous example of Timmy being done dirty as everyone just yells at him after he busted his ass, trying to make everyone happy and everything more convenient for them like giving AJ, a new computer. However, AJ, Timmy's own friend just snapped at him because the "computer became obsolete like a few seconds ago". He then proceeds to use Timmy's gift as a doorstop and just snaps at Timmy, "Thanks for the doorstop, that DOESN'T even work!" I hope you can discuss some Fairly Odd Parents' episodes and how like Penny, Timmy gets screwed over for things that were completely out of his control or having to learn a lesson that he didn't even need to learn because everyone else was the problem, not the protagonist, this time. Plus, Penny's parents could hire a babysitter since Trudy works as a veterinarian, a profession from what I understand, pays very well than most jobs. Also, this episode, I can see it giving girls, especially when I was a kid when this was airing, lifelong body dysmorphia. We have to be a certain body type to wear clothes like belly shirts, short shorts, mini skirts, whatever. Penny isn't overweight like I was as a kid, I was overweight. Penny wasn't even chubby for the love of Pete! My body type was more like Dijonay's. I wish this show gave Penny more outfits, especially the ones that felt more like her age. LaCienega's usual outfit, it suit her age and didn't make it feel like she was going to some school with a rigid dress code that makes girls wear nothing but ugly uniforms. I mean, why can't Penny dress herself? She's fourteen for crying out loud! Why does her mom have to be such a control freak as to make wear the same ugly, burgundy outfit almost every episode? At least, in the Proud Family movie, Penny got a change in outfits that made her feel more like a teenager instead of a preteen going to some private school with some dystopian dress code. One criticism that I have for Louder and Prouder, why did the first episode have to change Penny's body type? What's wrong with her usual body type? Why does Disney have to keep up the authoritarian beauty standards that "unless you're toothpick skinny with noticeably-sized breast, you're nothing but ugly!"? Penny wasn't the only one that got body-shamed. Raven Symone got body-shamed in that episode where she showcases her own outfits without her being slenderized on some lousy fashion magazine. Toppanga from Boy Meets World also got body-shamed because the show hinted that she was overweight despite her being busty. Not everyone can be toothpick skinny with medium-sized boobs like a Victoria's Secret model.

This episode is the perfect representation of the creators' (and executives' and producers') dedication to penny torture (because torturing and mocking teenage girls is funny to adult men) and how the crew and cast are forced/pressured to go along with it. This could have been an episode of penny learning to value spending time with her siblings instead of hanging out with her fake friends. But no, it instead proves that penny was right that she was being parentified and taken advantage of and being taken for granted. The twins being older would have been a cool concept and perfect for the louder and prouder show since they are zoomers (while penny is a millenial), but the backlash this episode got probably prevented that from happening. Why the f*** were the twins sexualized while trying be shown as cooler and better than penny, especially by penny's "friends"? Why wasn't there one moment of the twins being nice to penny and sranding up for her when everyone else was being cruel to her? Al roker may be a celebrity but in the show, he is ironically and unintentionally the creators' insert character. [I get a lot of flack for saying that sticky was a terrible friend to penny, but there are plenty of episodes where he goes along with toruturing, mocking, or anandoning penny and this episode is one of them. This episode is why i can't hate maya or kg or michael that much. Michael was in that episode and could have been more sympathetic to penny having to miss a party to take care of her siblings, but he wasn't as bad as everyone else (that isn't penny) in that episode (and never sexualized the twins even though he found them cool). Maya and kg haven't done anything like that (yet); they just got bastardized because the creators wanted penny torture. And before anyone mentions myron, myron was cruel to penny in that episode because he was using her to boost his own ego and instantly dropped the act the moment she couldn't boost his ego.] And they made suga mama act so ooc in that episode. Suga mama telling penny to accept being parentified and mistreated by her parents (even though it seems to be implied that suga mama is the one who instilled penny's strong sense of justice, morals, and ethics into her and raised her until her parents were able to take care of her) is almost equivalent to making tsunade drunk to the point of randomly telling sakura that she and naruto wouldn't work because they are "too similar" as a way to justify the studio pierrot executives' and producers' decision to force and pressure kishimoto into changing the ending of naurto and making NarutoxHinata canon endgame (even though the story was set up to have NarutoxSakura be canon endgame and tsunade would never tell sakura that naruto is a bad match for her even if she was super drunk). Thank god uncle bobby and aunt diane (or any of penny's other relatives) weren't in that episode because penny didn't need any more family members being cruel to her.

This episode definitely could have been better if Penny dealt with her growing apart from her now teenage siblings (like say cause she has been at times forced to be responsible for them she starts noticing how much they have changed as teens! Also maybe they have a tendency to get into mischief cause they don't really know better lacking the experience that Penny has being a teenage! Her parents could also maybe recognize that they have missed out on certain milestones with them while Penny has a lot more time on her hands since she's not caring for them, but starts to try to keep tabs on them as they aren't as wise in the ways of the world and she takes it upon herself to keep them out of trouble! Alternatively they could have the twins still favor Penny over their parents cause she was always taking care of them and maybe they start noticing how everyone is ignoring she exists including their parents! I mean it would be cool if they realize how much responsibility was pushed on Penny and how their parents favor them over her, but in doing so they give the twins more leway than they would with Penny and it almost gets them into a bad situation that Penny gets them out of! Maybe they could have taken umbridge with how everyone was treating their big sister, refusing to hang out with them to hang out with her cause they know she got saddled with a lot of responsibility watching them and decide to have fun with her! Seriously have them bond but the twins decide they can't handle the stress of being older and going to school, but before they go back they tell their parents to let Penny have some time to herself with the parents who recognize they were missing out on watching their younger kids grow up and decide they made a good point and everything goes back to normal though with the parents and Penny working things how so they don't push everything onto her, with Sugar Mama even offering to watch them every now and then so both the parents and Penny can have time to themselves, as she too doesn't want to miss out on watching the twins mature! I mean they could have made a great episode with a becareful what you wish for bent but also address the reasons Penny made the wish and realistically deal with the ramifications of the younger siblings suddenly maturing to be around Penny's age and actually give them some characterization while bonding with their sister as teens and learning to watch out for each other!

I remember liking this episode because it proved that Penny’s parents were harsh on her and so were her friends when literally choosing grown-up 1-year-olds over her. I knew they were not the best, but they reached an all-time low then. I truly hope Al Roker messed up Penny’s wish and had everyone to turn on her to “teach her a lesson.” How could you be that grateful as Penny? You were either forced to look over your baby siblings your parents preferred or for some reason want to hang out with your friends who would date the grown-up version of your siblings.

I think it'd be more interesting to see Penny's misplaced resentment towards Bebe and Cece when they're older (maybe the twins are like 14 and Penny's doing her thing) and they realize that Penny was basically their mom all her teenage years. The family dynamics would be extremely interesting to dive into. Make it about Penny's vs the twins' upbringings and all that comes with it

You know , as I reflect on proud family , I realize, Let the show both old and new was very toxic, I mean, it was very good and entertaining with a few morals but for a black animated show just. Negative and stereotypical, Like how come we didn't get this kind of stereotypicallness with other shows focusing on people of different teethnicity is like american dragon Or such Where people acted just like everyday people, I mean, here I'm in proud family. Everyone's just toxic penny's friends. Penny, her parents, even her siblings who were babies like. The 2 people I can truly say who aren't really toxic our sugar, mama and Oscar, proudand even then, they're not really that much better. Especially towards each other

Too bad there was an episode the family got a nanny but Trudy got rid of her cause she was jealous rather than tell her to tone it down and they should keep her cause poor penny should’ve have to deal with this especially now that Bebe is autistic in the reboot

The thing that pisses me off about this episode is that Penny's family turns on her. A family the almost ALWAYS has her back and this was very out of character for them. Sugar Mama especially. I think if this was all a dream, the episode could have been saved. I know that would be cliche but at least it would explain things. This one of those bad episodes of good show moments.

I don’t know. I in my mind, it’s fifty-fifty. Yeah it’s true that Penny wasn’t always treated the best, but at the same time she didn’t always treat her loved ones well either and remember that Roker was the one who transformed the twins into teens. He might have seen an opportunity to get back at her for what happened when she previously wished the adults away as it was mentioned that he has bosses that he has to answer to and she got him into some trouble with them after their first encounter. In addition to that he’s a troublemaker, a deal maker, magical and a con-artist. And in addition to that Penny started the episode acting ungrateful towards her parents, so it’s like be grateful for what you have. As it could always be a lot worse.

I honestly thought that the dynamic was supposed to match with how her dad is treated by his mom compared to the uncle. If it was written better Oscar would realize and talk to Penny. Maybe even have a genuine conversation with Sugga Momma about how he feels when she does that to him. Definitely should confront Trudy about that comment she did, that will never be okay. The dynamic between Penny and the twins would have fit with one like Mirabel and Isabella. Hear me out, Mirabel thought that her sister had it easy. It wasn't until they talked did they make up. I think that this could have been the case. Bebe and Cece maybe older physically but not mentally. The argument can even have Penny bring up her friends leaving her and they remark about the times they left her. She asks them why stay with the friends and they say that they never wanted to and only did it to be like their sister. Al Roker can come out and tell her that this is what she needed. Not for them to be older, but for her parents to hear her, and stop putting so much responsibility on her plate at such a young age. It also shows her that she is taking her frustrations on the twins. Not by hitting them or insulting them, but instead making them feel like it's their the problem and not the parents. But that is how I would change the episode if I could. What do yall think?

Does the creator of the show have a thing against light skins cause I feel like pennies always getting the short end of the stick due to her friends and her family treating her like absolute crap and it seems like that kind of is consistent with every light skinned character Trudy marrying a man that’s very much lackluster like Oscar even though she is successful

I remember I had a friend I'm still friends with her till this day we've been friends since middle school and I remember she always had to watch her brothers and sisters Up to a point where they all weren't really living together they are all that separated due to my friends going to a different school when we got to high school her and her sister ended up living with another relative for a while and she always has to watch her siblings like even when she wanted to have sleepovers her younger sisters and her younger brother were there The only few times she didn't have her siblings under her was one time she went to a sleepover I remember she got to come by herself and the only reason she got to come by herself is because her brothers and sisters were sick and their grandma was visiting so she watched them while she was at the sleepover Will my friend couldn't even really go to sleepovers without her siblings being undertow it's like she wasn't allowed to do much of anything I had another friend like that where she always just seems so miserable because she had to watch her younger sister and her little cousin and in the Summer she would have to look after her younger cousin and her little sister and a few other kids that will come for the summer she's basically running a daycare it seemed like some of my other friends and I will go over and help her watch him a few days out of the week during the summer if we were free And she was always made to babysit her siblings up to a point I believe we were at 8th or 9th grade she was just in the bathroom crying all the time to the point the teachers notice it and she was just so upset she always had to watch her siblings and she felt like she was a teen mom even though she wasn't a mom cuz she always had to watch her siblings and cousins And it got to the point where the teacher had to call out her parents for making her watch them all the time and not letting her like get to participate in certain things even School related events and programs that did want her in them And then at one point I remember she ran away and people were looking for her for a few weeks and after that when she was found again I did not see her after that and it wasn't until years later I think it was maybe around 2014 or 15 I saw her again working out working at a store I went to and she said after she ran away and they did take her back home child protective services took her and her siblings away due to some type of complaint they had got from neighbors and other people and I think even the school I don't know she didn't go into detail about it but she said she was put into foster care temporarily Up till she graduated or whenever I can't really remember and last time I looked she seems to be doing well she moved overseas for a while and just came back to the US recently and is getting married she said on Instagram I had another friend who was also taken away and she and her siblings got separated but she was always watching her siblings as well I remember with her she got taken away and her senior year because like our other friend she kept running away she was just always upset and kind of angry and most of it's done from how her parents would treat her kind of like how Penny got treated in this episode is always seemed like they favor her younger siblings and let them do things or break stuff and again I think possibly the school or maybe teachers or some other adults intervened with how she was being treated by her parents and that's why she got taken I also have a half sister she would have to watch me during the summer when we were both have to visit our dad And she was sometimes even have to take me to work where she worked at a pool I'm not sure if she likes watching me or not I can't remember what her exact age is but I believe she was 14 - 16 when she was watching me And I was about 4-7, I also had to watch my cousin during the Summers my younger cousin will come for 2 weeks every summer and I would have to watch her I remember I felt kind of annoyed because I have finally started to get Summers back to myself and didn't have to go visit my dad like I used to do the visitation that was mandated by the court and I finally started to get my Summers free again but my Summers weren't long do I have my school was set up sometimes my cousin will come for 2 weeks sometimes it would be for a month and it felt like I had to babysit her and she did not want to listen to me at all And the only reason she any of her younger brother stopped really visiting us during the summer is because their school started switching things around with how they did Summer and they had to go back early at the end of July so they would only come for like a week so that wasn't that bad because by then other relatives were coming to visit so they would watch them as well so I have more free time but I've seen how draining it is on several friends and classmates who have younger siblings and it's like they're made to be team parents when they're not the parents and younger siblings don't really want to listen to a older sibling like they're supposed to even when the parents tell them to For anyone going through this right now I just hope you know that one day even though you're missing out on a lot of things right now hopefully in the future you'll have your own space I also remember seeing this one girl I saw I believe on Instagram or it was tik Tok or is she talked about how she watched her siblings I remember how she talked about how she moved out of the house when she got 18 and went to college and her mom kept trying to come by and drop her younger brothers and sisters off when she was trying to take college classes but she knew her mom would do this so she told her mom that she was going to one University but truthfully she had moved all the way across the country to New York I think it was I don't know I have to go look for the short I saw and she moved all the way to New York so her mom couldn't just drop her siblings off at the drop of a hat because she knew her mom would try to do that with her where she was still trying to treat her like she's a babysitter even though she's in school working and has roommates I remember the same girl also talked about how when she went to like a sleepaway camp her mom kept trying to come by cuz the sleepaway camp was like an hour away and her mom kept trying to come by and drop her siblings off but the account counselors and staff at the camp had to tell the mom that she didn't sign her other kids up for the program and they were too young for it and this summer can't think she was going to was related to school cuz she was in band or something I think I can't remember and they have to tell the mom that she couldn't drop the kids off in the mom seemed annoyed that she had to go find a sitter and she said when she got home her mom just called complaining about how they wouldn't let herdrop her siblings off at the camp and even the dad finally stepped in and had to tell her that they were too young to be there and that camp was linked to her school and that's what she should have focused on and that her siblings should have just gone to some type of kid camp or something I see a lot of people who just talk about these stories and I just sit here going yeah I'm glad that even though I had a half-sister I got to basically be your only child and not really have to look after a sibling myself cuz I know I would have just left the kids somewhere and not paying attention 😅
