Daughter sure has depressed lyrics, but if you're not depressed, you'll still love and listen to those songs cause they're relaxing you, it's like you're being taken away by waves, or at least that's how I feel ^_^

In the chorus, those cracking/clapping sounds placed just before "smoke" and right after "room" resembles that of a slap or whip. And the man's voice echoing, sounds like he's saying "shut up". So chilling...the mood of this song is breathtaking... The cracking sound continues, repeating on every third off beat until the end.

This song rips my heart out. I don't think I've ever ever ever been able to feel a band so much. I don't even know what to say. I can feel it right in my chest. Allison Forest nah the xx aren't that similar. idk. i feel daughter is more similar to people like bon iver, elliott smith, ed sheeran, birdy, etc. the xx use different sounds and very futuristic tunes to make their music a lot more polished and clean. daughter is a lot more soft, acoustic, heartfelt. where as the xx is very like structured in its sound. just my opinion, though :)

In a smoke filled room With your father watching me There's three doors and no keys It's rising, it's choking me In a smoke filled room In a smoke filled room There's a man with no face Just a blurred out portrait In a photo frame I'm losing again, I'm losing my friend He's face down on the pavement Then a woman, she screams It's a terrible night As the mood changes to dark from light Tell the doctor what's become of me So you can analyse, analyse my dreams Of a smoke filled room Of a smoke filled room And then we kiss and his lips turn into sand And the whole of him cascades through my hands Making a castle on the floor Then I'm alone again No keys and three doors And a smoke filled room Now we're both in the room And we're breathing the fumes No doors this time, just a gap in the roof Life floods in, heaven, we're blind And slowly suffocating, we're dying In a smoke filled room We're dying in a smoke filled room We're dying in a smoke filled room (In a smoke filled room) In a smoke filled room In a smoke filled room In a smoke filled room

This band has quite a great gift of creating beautiful yet melancholy soundscapes. Its quite nice. Some may call it "hipster" but coming from a blues and classic rock background and being a guitarist myself I've learned that labels are stupid and good music is good music regardless. My only complaint is that their songs could be longer, but then again i'm used to Pink Floyd's 8-30 minute songs haha.

I performed a reginal winning dance to this. I was the soloist and it was centered around PTSD and the effects on it's victums. I was a mentally damaged girl and the others were wearing surgical masks as a metaphor about how they were watching me suffer while they were unharmed by the 'smoke'. It was basically about PTSD's toll on the mind and the selfishness of others
@elenaarmaroli9841
@elenaarmaroli9841 10 жыл бұрын
Personally I think the lyrics are about a child being abused. Then he/she grows up mentally instable so that he/she has to start a therapy (''tell the doctor what's become of me..''). The smoke could represent the innocence and confusion of the child. What do you think?

Two years ago, I listened for the first time Youth. Then I fell deeply in love with this song and few months later I wanted to hear more about the band. I listened Candles and I was like "yeah, that's OK - uuuuh I don't like that" and my life hadn't change this day. Now I'm asking damn fucking WHY and HOW I didn't/couldn't feel what I feel now when I'm listening to whatever their song. Hopefully, Facebook made my way back on the good path a year ago when a talented singer shared the Get Lucky cover. Girls in the comments talked about Home and Medicine and I listened too each of their song in one night. My god. They are music genius. She knows how to sing, how to make us "feel something". It's just irrelevant. Thank you so much Daughter

The last time i heard this song was maybe early 2016, completely forgot about it, and it just happened to be a recommended video, and i didnt really remember the words, i just remember the emotions. So i clicked, and the first 5 words i had to pause, it was just a lot of everything. Sadness, anger, and just gave a really nostalgic feeling for me. It took me about an hour to finish the rest of the song because i kept having to pause and rethink everything.

I don't know who else agrees with me, but I think most girl led bands sound the same. This is not the case with Daughter. She has an amazing voice, but it's not just that, its the lyrics more so. I'm the kind of person who focuses on the lyrics of a song a lot, to see how they can relate to my life. With Daughter, there's a different feeling while listening to them. It's calming, yet terrifying.

I read the lyrics and I was expecting an explanation but there was none. I feel like this song was written about a relationship in ruins. "Smoke-filled room depicts their crumbling relationship, like ashes after a fire-the ashes being their current situation and the fire was what they once were- burning, and bright. The man is her partner and she is the woman- she finds herself so lost within this hole that she has to see a doctor to "analyse her dreams". "Making a castle on the floor... No keys and three rooms" to me shows that no matter the fortune, you can't buy love nor relationships. I don't know if this makes sense but it' just what I had in my head.

The beauty of such profound music like this is that you can interoperate these sorts of songs however your heart feels of it. You may also relate it back to what seems a "lonely" personal situation that has been going on in your own life. Powerful and intriguing, to say the least. This singer, Daughter is so bold and captivating with her deep, meaningful words.

Usually I'm a person who listens to a lot of 60s and 70s rock, but I absolutely love this. Sometimes you just need to put something soothing and relaxing when you've been rocking too hard!

It's about whatever you want it to be about. Music is personal, there's no true definite meaning. You relate it to life, ups and downs. For me, my Dad passed away very unexpectedly and quickly from lung and bone cancer last month, so the song's meaning to me is very obvious but very powerful. Really listen to it, close your eyes if it helps, and maybe you'll find your own meaning

I honestly love this song so much, I was surprised when my friends that listen to daughter said it was just okay. Maybe it's just because I relate to the song differently then them, or something, but I honestly love it it's in my top 5 daughter songs, although getting a top 5 of daughter songs is pretty hard on it's own
