Dave Brubek Quartet Live wJerry Bergonzi

Early eighties. Not sure where this was recorded. Jerry is in prime form. I heard the band during this time and it was the most exciting jazz that Brubeck ever played. Including the great quartet with Paul Desmond. Unbelievable stuff here. Chris is a great bass player and Randy Jones is one of the most under-rated or just ignored drummers of all time. And I think Dave plays better on this then I've ever heard him before. Jerry Bergonzi is so masterful that he brings out the best in even an icon like Dave Brubeck. I've had this for 30 years or so on video tape and have almost literally worn it out.

I'm so glad to finally hear this! Brubeck is my jazz hero and I still find it amazing the contrast between his sidemen-Desmond, Mulligan, Bergonzi, Bill Smith, Bobby Militello-over the years. Thanks for posting this! For everyone's info: 1. Reflections of You-a Brubeck original recorded on Reflections (1985). This is a different arrangement than appears there, and is brand new to me! 2. Summer Music-a Brubeck original recorded on The New Brubeck Quartet Live at Montreux (1977), an album with Dave's sons. 3. Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?-Brubeck's four-part arrangement of the '30s standard, first heard on Brubeck Time (1954) and re-recorded with Bergonzi on Tritonis (1980).
