This is a truly rare record self-released by an enigmatic artist named Dave Dickson living in Los Angeles in the mid 70s. There is very little information about Dave or this record. I found a copy of this over 15 years ago and was immediately blown away. It's a unique combination of glacial paced, hypnotic Ted Lucas-esque downer psych with killer drums and synthesizer.
Here's what I know ... I tried tracking down the artist with the help of a couple friends years ago shortly after discovering and hit a dead end. We are fairly certain the artist passed away and unfortunately left little info behind.
Accent Records (to those unfamiliar) was a unique ‘vanity pressing’ operation where an artist could send their own master tapes and have a custom, small record run pressed. And this is exactly the case here. I spoke with the label owner shortly after finding this 15 years ago. He remembered the guy and the session and speculated it was a tiny run of 50 copies. No master tapes, no contact info, no session player info, just a one-of-a-kind session. Broken Mirror is the standout and a quintessential example downer psych on 45. The flip Tassletown is also very unique.
I’ve kept this a secret since finding it 15+ years ago and haven’t seen or heard of another copy in collector’s hands or ever sold … that is until last week (May 2024) when the only other copy sold on eBay.
Enjoy this amazing song! If you have any info on Dave Dickson or this session please get in touch.
