I feel like this song speaks to the "american dream" too, but different sides of the same coin. Corey held down his job, his 9-5, and provided for those around him, including his homie; and homie was dreaming about doing crazy shit and just kept grinding till it luckily worked and he blew up and saw the world. "Corey too stuck in his ways to chase a dream, he much rather be content with 9-5" and then they started growing apart.
