I remember hanging out with Dave before his Neurosis concert in Dublin Ireland back in the late ‘90s. Saw him buying a beer and then we hung out for about an hour chatting and laughing about nonsense as if we were buddies for years. He’s the coolest guy ever!! And of course the concert was f*cking amazing!!!!

His vocals sound like a more aggressive King Buzzo. I wish they were heard more in later Neurosis albums. I hope they’ll come back to Austin soon!

First time I recall hearing Neurosis I was falling asleep listening to a metal radio show, I think it was End of the Harvest, it was a Times of Grace track, WOKE ME UP, WHOA, caught the name, went to the music store, bought Enemy of the Sun, only album available, guessing it was what I heard on the radio, blown away, in awe, why hadn't heard this band before?. Noticing the release date, started the collection.

dave is a great bassplayer. totally underrated. everything he plays sounds awesome and just right. from the fast, crispy lines on the word as law to the low, heavy sonic-python-like walls of boom on the late albums like fires within fires or honor found out in decay.

I've been waiting for about a decade (since I got into Neurosis) for an interview with Dave. Thanks so much!

Why does he stopped doing vocals in Neurosis post-ASTNS? I think its his absence really made the previous couple of Neurosis records weaker.

I did lights at the back room in Austin Texas for every one of those bands you just posted that's awesome... I could go on and on about my likes and dislikes about the people in the bands but the dislikes there's only a couple I can count them on like three fingers...lol but got to say the roses f****** rocked it always through a badass show especially the old school giant kaleidoscope they had!! But I'm not here to talk s*** I still had a good time every one of those shows and those were the days brother!!!

Excellent interview, thanks! As a feedback, you should wear headphones or something, because I feel you're using speakers to hear Dave thus the echo gets quite distracting..

Will do! Actually working on a really nice mic and headphone setup, but also looking at a new interface that can give me some better on-the-fly control of the mic tonalities. It's comin' though. Appreciate the feedback!

I get that they like working with Albini and all but i feel like a different production on an album for once would do wonders for Neurosis at this point. They still put out great music but every album sounds almost identical like one continuous epic album with the same 'vibe' spread out over the last 20 years.

If it's not broke don't fix it , it's their journey at the end of the day . Neurosis aren't people pleasers . It's honest and pure . Neurosis push boundaries with every album . Honour found in decay sounds nothing like Fires within fires . They work with him because they know him well . It seems like a no brainer to me to work with some one , who understands Neurosis . That formula works for them , who are we to say what they should or should not do .
@TheDude-cu5ex
@TheDude-cu5ex 3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewbounds3402 I'm not suggesting they do anything, of course they're gonna do what they're gonna do (for better or for worse) all i'm doing is sharing my feelings about it. Funny you mention those two albums cause those albums sound more alike to me than even the ones before it (my opinion). And let's face it, Albini does have a distinctive sound or 'signature' that comes through even on non-neurosis albums. I'm just saying (as a fan) It'd be interesting to see what would happen if they mixed it up a little just to see what would happen cause i know I'm not the only one who feels like the formula might be growing a little stale.
@andrewbounds3402
@andrewbounds3402 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheDude-cu5ex growing a bit stale well go and listen to COL or Russian Circles if it isn't to your liking . Albinis trade mark drum sound is unbeatable my opinion . Neurosis have found their sound and are happy with it . Deal with it. I not sure what you are listening to but they don't sound alike
