I still find interviews from this era hard to watch. Having followed them since the early 80s, watching Dave go from fresh faced teenager to 30 something drug addict was heart breaking. Thank goodness he's now clean and sober and we can look forward to seeing him front DM for years to come. 💝

This is such a testament to Dave's rehabilitation. It's disheartening to see him like this 14 years ago, but it's great that they've fought through it as a band and have come back stronger than ever. I am so excited for the new album and the much talked about DM tour and album next year!!!! :D

I was a huge fan of Depeche in 1993, and I had no idea Dave was in such a bad place then. It was only in the next few years that we all knew. It is a miracle that the band managed to stay together and are still going. I would like to read Dave's autobiography but he will probably never write one because those memories are too painful.

Heroin is powerful. Having a creative mind is natural & very powerful. When you combine the two, this is what you get. A very sad lonely and harsh education. So very happy Dave made it through. Looking forward to his next album this fall!!

I think you can easily hear from Songs Of Faith And Devotion that Dave was suffering because of drugs. But still he sounds so good in that album and the composition is just outstanding. It's my all time favorite album.

Although it is painfully obvious to see that Dave was fucked up, he is truly speaking from the heart. He was really speaking his mind. If you are an individual who has experienced with drugs, you know that when under the influence you will speak the trutth. I respect that, but I'm glad Dave got his shit together and still here to kick ass.

I agree. He was without a doubt the best looking guy I has ever seen in my entire life. I also agree as sad as it was for him, he looked his best and sang his best during this time period. I've read in interviews that Dave Gahan thinks he sang his best during this time as well.

They've reinvented themselves a few times without ever really throwing away their uniqueness..Dave has got that solo thing outta his hair..I hope!Saw them in concert last december,they were excellent,so lets hope they tour again soon

I remember watching this when it first aired. A programme called Naked City on Channel 4, Friday nights I think. I was only 14 and had only just got into Depeche, I sat and watched it with my Mum & Dad - I think they got a bit worried that I was starting to idolise these drug-frazzled rock stars!

I knew a guy who who spent a few nights out with him on this tour. He told me the amount of drugs they were doing was absolutely fucking ridiculous and believe me the guy I knew could fire it in him like there was no tomorrow. For him to say that it must have been beyond mad.

I remember liking the big huts from the 80s and 90s when I was young but i didn't really know the band. Was he pretty bad into drugs for awhile? Is je clean now? Im just starting to get back into them now that im older. As an American they definitely sound unmistakenly British which is definitely not a bad thing.
