@@MrDaveo98 I can vouch that the pedals Will makes are absolutely incredible. There's a mini CE-1 (completely true to the original), WH10 which again is totally true to the original sound (way better than the V2 in the metal case) and made from incredibly strong ABS so won't break, the Moogerfooger Low Pass Filter with 8 in-built LFOs! I think John would have a lot of fun and appreciation for these pedals (he was the inspiration for them after all). Do you think you could provide Will a way to get these pedals to John to try? I've made some videos of them on my channel, we'd love to know what you think. I'm not on commission btw, Will is just a very good friend of mine & I strongly believe his pedals deserve to fall into the right hands. Thanks Dave :)

Dave: "I remember reading that and realizing John was wrong in that interview (I never told him). We were experimenting with a number of different pickups at the time. And he must've gotten confused. The actual pickups we settled on (and John never knew this) were stock, brand new, Fender Strat pickups. The same ones Fender was putting in their brand new American Fender Strats at the time (I'll bet you weren't expecting that)." Hey Dave, I don't suppose you remember what the Boss PSM-5 master loop was used for around 2003? It's on his board at Slane Castle, I'm guessing it was used to turn multiple pedals on and off with one click?
@MrDaveo986 жыл бұрын
Olly Vert Yes. It was used to turn on distortion boxes at once. I believe 3 different ones. Also it was ised as a power supply for a few pedals. At least that's how I remember it.
@OllyVert6 жыл бұрын
That's cool, was there a reason it was only used for such a short period of time? Since I started using a true bypass looper, I don't think I could ever go back (although it does sometimes cause some strange oscillations with multiple fuzz pedals!) I'm also interested if the amount of crunch John had onstage was usually related to the input setting on the CE-1?
@MrDaveo986 жыл бұрын
Olly Vert He was always experimenting. He might try something, be totally happy with it, then a week later, completely change his mind. That's just who he is. A few years ago he told me he "doesn't play guitar anymore." Then a year or so later he says "I'm playing guitar again, but I only play Yamaha SG's" ya never know what to expect. Lol.

Hey Dave, thank you so much for replying us! We have a big doubt about the CE-1. Do you still remember if John used to switch between High and Low mode on the pedal according to the location during the Stadium Arcadium tour? From what I know he started to use Low mode since the Mosrite Fuzzrite does not interact well with Ce-1's High mode, kinda looses volume. Can you confirm this? Thanks in advance!!

Hey Dave, this is completely off topic, but I was wondering if you could give me some advice. So I bought a limited colour edition Gibson les Paul from 2000 like two years back. I've been playing it like every day since then. Anyway I noticed the intonation was real bad and tried to adjust it. Few months later it was sounding so out of tune in the higher notes, so I thought maybe it was because the strings were pressing down on the bridge. To my surprise I couldn't adjust the height. I took all the strings off, and found that the bridge (tune o matic) was not wide enough for the poles it rested on. So basically it pretty much forced on. Now I'm really confused about what's going on. I looked up and found out there were two types of tune o matic bridged-the abr 1 and the Nashville-and so I thought maybe the precious owner might have put the wrong bridge on? Went to a guitar repair guy and asked about it, he said that the Nashville and abr are interchangeable (which seems contrary to what I saw online). So, what are your thoughts on what I could do? Is the guitar guy right, and the problem is actually with the guitar? In which case does that mean my only option is to drill new holes or shave the shit out of the bridge holes? I just don't know what to do. Like the poles are not even that far off from being the correct distance. They are like 3mm off...

Hey Dave, I'm afraid I have another question about how the CE-1 was used! (You can call me obsessed if you like!) Basically, judging by some close-ups of John's amps I've seen online, the Jubilee was set with the master volume on 10, which would usually be too overdriven, so this got me wondering if the CE-1 was used to actually reduce the signal going into the front end of the amps, rather than boosting it further? I've seen a couple of photos of the pedalboard where the CE-1's level knob was pretty low, and the switch seems to be in the low mode too, do you remember if it was ever used this way? Or was the CE-1 always adding MORE crunch?
@OllyVert4 жыл бұрын
@j77 Sometimes the case, but not always. With the CE-1 in low mode, anywhere below 1 o'clock on the knob is below unity, and there are various photos showing John's pedal set like that (namely Stadium Arcadium era, where the MoogerFoogers will have also been adding gain with their preamps). Photos of John's amp settings also make it impossible to have needed more gain from the CE-1... Jubilee with the master output on 10 and input gain on 8? That's crunchy as hell, trust me, i've tried it! I have recently seen however some clear photos of John's pedals & amps from 2002, and back then it seems he was adding crunch from the CE-1 in high mode, and his amps were set very differently from Stadium Arcadium era. The Jubilee's input gain was down on 2...

There was some period from 2006 he stopped using Gretsch, i saw videos from fuji rock, pink pop, rock in rio, chorzów and also there were some rumours that something happened with Gretsch
@MrDaveo987 жыл бұрын
Maciej Niewiadomski He did occasionally use the strat. But I don't remember why. I'll try to remember.
@Alexgibbo55 жыл бұрын
If I recall correctly it was because transporting the giant Gretsch was a bit of a pain.

Hey Dave! I have a question. What gauge of strings did John use? I'm wanting to build a JF "signature" strat, if you will. :)

Slick Nick 10's I believe

D’addsrio tens Except for the white falcon was 12...All high E’s (except for the Gretsch) were replaced with D’addario 11’s

is that strictly nescessary with a locking nut? I bought a Jackson RR Flying V with a Floyd Rose Bridge and Locking Nut off Ebay once and it arrived with the headstock split into 3 pieces and dangling from the strings...unbelievably it was still perfectly in tune...the guitar you are restringing in the video seems to have a Locking Nut so is it just a bit of "Snake Oil"
@MrDaveo983 жыл бұрын
No. I mention that in the video. This was not John's guitar. And John didn't use Floyds.

Dave can keep a secret im guessing LOL

I did not know. In fact I had spent an afternoon with John, just a week before the announcement. He didn't say a word about it. I'm glad he didn't tell me. It would've been nearly impossible to keep that secret. I would've literally bet money he was not going back. Lol.

@MrDaveo987 жыл бұрын
Yes. there is a les paul type string locking method. difficult to explain. maybe I need to make another video.lol.

Will you put another video on that string locking method? Also what order did JF run his pedals? was it WH10 --> turbo distortion or the other way around?
@ThomDumdust6 жыл бұрын
Andrew Tress put the WH10 after the DS2.

What fret size did he use on his 7.25 radius boards??? i been trying to find it online and i cant
@MrDaveo984 жыл бұрын
Marcus Munn One thing John was fairly particular about was keeping his guitars as stock as reasonably possible. So, if we ever did a refret, we would use the same size frets as whatever was stock on that particular guitar.
