This song is pulsing with energy! There is a tension and a build up to the crescendo keeps me on the edge of my seat. The current iteration of the band just bashes you over the head with LOUDNESS. This version breathes, flows, and expands. The current versions of DDTW explode and it's over. Its like drinking from a fire hose. This version is like sipping a fine wine.

Who's the narrator in this song? Satan. It's his diatribe of begging us not to believe on Jesus Christ. Believing on Him is "drinking" in His water. The blood? Without His shed blood atoning for our sins than His message is of no effect. Notice that the words used in the song are of Scriptural origins. Just about all of them. Even ones that just sound as figure of speech. "Your horse is leaving"? References Christ's second coming. Btw, natives didn't even have any horses until we arrived. The boat? Every Biblical scholar will agree that Noah's ark was a "type" or "shaddow" representing Jesus Christ, saving man from judgement. Jesus even said; "As it was in the days of Noah.... so shall it be when I return." The beginning of the song references the beginning of the Bible. In Genesis, Adam and Eve's eyes were opened to their nakedness (primarilly their spiritual nakedness). They could "now see". They "hid themselves".They were "banished" from the garden. They forfeited their dominion over the earth and it was given over to Satan ("given to me"). "Lay your arms down". Praising and worshipping God with raised arms is spiritual warfare, in both the Old and New Testaments, and today. Satan wants to make our world his own "heaven and home". It's all he has, however brief it will be in regard to eternity. "His "wings". The "fire". "Poor souls". "Fool, you're blind". Jesus said that unbelievers are blind, and lead others that are blind, and both fall into the pit. Jesus told a man, who wanted to bury his father, with "let the dead (spiritually dead) bury the dead" (the physically dead). "Your father's spirit". Can it be any more clear who the Father is?

Even though most of the sites that provide these lyrics are the same as yours, they omit "and God" preceding "I live with the notion..." Dave omits it here as well, but not while at Central Park, as well at other performances. Interesting, as the song's true meaning describes a diatribe by Satan. The surface narrative implies its about indigenous people and those who conquered them. Dave himself said it was about Satan but later claimed it's about indigenous people. Dave is all about cozying up to the woke crowd.

"Drinking" here represents believing or adhering to a teaching or a theory or a doctrine. As in two scientists commenting on a third, "Yeah, he's drinking in Dr. Doe's nonsense." The "water" is the gospel message of Jesus Christ/The Word of God. The blood? Who's blood? Come on, the blood of Jesus Christ, the lack of which would nullify and invalidate the Gospel's message and relevance. It all starts with His blood atonement, without which, loving, forgiving, and yes, even beliveng wouldnt be worth a stitch. Notice that even the very first two lyrics of the song reference Adam and Eve being banished from Eden. Straight from the first few chapters of Genesis. Their eyes were "opened" (to their shame) and could now "see". They then "hid themselves." Praising and worshipping among Christians with arms raised is often considered "spiritual warfare", as it was even in Old Testament days. "Lay your 'arms' down " Dont wors- hip Him. "You are "blind fools." Christ called unbelievers blind and said they lead each other into the pit. The references to "wings, fire, boat (Noah's ark was a type or shaddow of the coming Messiah who woukd save the righteous from judgement). Satan thinks this world will be his forever home/heaven but it is indeed currently under his dominion, albeit briefly in comparison to eternity. Finally, we all know who "your Father" is referring to. One last note. Satan is "bossy" during this tirade but later confesses his guilt and ends begging and pleading with us not to trust in God.
