WOW! I was there on this day in September 04. We bought tickets late (it was a "FREE" concert) but we couldnt get any tickets except for Budweiser True Music passes. Me and my best friend pulled the trigger not knowing what to expect. What we got was a reserved sliver right in front of the stage on the left. so to my amazement I was directly at Santanas feet and Boyds as they jammed. BLEW MY MIND! I caught Fenton as he was goin back and forth and I know he said they filmed in HD......so one day?

Daniel, Thank you so much for this post and sharing. My all time favorite version. Watching Carlos play is like going to church for me. Went to see Dave and the Gang at the Gorge the other weekend. AMAZING!! I truely envy anyone who was at Golden Gate! @4:48 when Carlos comes on you can FEEL the energy from the crowd! My heros...

I worked for the band, they were def. cool. Look for tracks that come from Trax in Charlottesville - that was our homebase. Anyway, afterwards any big band eventually fades but in the beginning the ride was great. Thanks Carter!

I feel exactly the same as you do man! I take responsibility for this one, i asked him to put it on here after seeing he had sugar will w carlos at Golden Gate. Much to my suprise he responded! Im sorry but have you only ever heard DMB's radio material? Because by simply looking at Carter Beaufords(in the top 20 of rolling stones top 100 drummers list) drum kit set up, you can tell they are no ordinary band. First off, they are one of few interracial rock bands. Besides this, if you ever watch Dave play guitar, he has a method far different from other guitar players. This is because he was born in South Africa and inspired by their keyboardist. Electric guitarist Tim Reynolds (was around the 50 mark in rolling stones top 100 guitarists article) is an amazingly melodic and gifted guitar player. I encourage you to check out some live shows here on youtube. Or watch a song like Rapunzel(a song in various time signatures). I assure you, that you'll no longer consider DMB an "ordinary band".

John Scott I did as you asked and I am afraid my opinion is the same as it was if not lower. I don't find anything that entraps me or to drag me into the vibe. There is no rhythm or structure just a mix of ever changing beats combined with discords (lack of harmony between notes sounding together). Nothing connects and as a musician I just cannot get into, sorry. To me it is a bit like and imitation of Frank Zappa and the mothers of creation that are off their on steroids and acid trips.
