I remember wanting the ESP Dave Mustaine 8-ball so bad...I couldn't afford it, so I got a used ESP-LTD V200 (same body, but bolt-on neck). It's really heavy especially in it's case. Pretty much like moving a frig, but it plays and sounds wonderful. The neck is so well made. Absolutely flawless.

Great video! Recently ordered an Angel of Deth and came here to see how the Dean stood up to the other DM signature V’s and I was surprised at how similar yet different they all sound. Tone & overall sound; Jackson, Gibson, Dean, LTD Aesthetic & dimensions; Jackson, Dean, Gibson, LTD I respect the hell out of ESP/LTD guitars and have played a couple budget models and liked them, but not as much as other stuff I’ve tried or owned. The Jackson just looks and sounds so killer, as a kid I’ve always been a fan of the sharp lines and amazing punch they offer on everything. I’m not normally a fan of Gibson but I have to admit that this V is making some wicked harmonics but still has great punch! Wish it had sharper corners though, I like the explorer headstock on this unit. I think for the price I paid on the Dean, I will be happy as it does provide great tone but I understand what you mean with the active pickups changing the dynamics of it compared to the other guitars. I normally play an Ibanez RG so I have no leg to stand on here 😅 Subbed to the channel, as a small-time KZbinr I understand how it goes! I’m not at your level but it’s another hobby, much like the guitar. Thanks for providing us with an excellent perspective on these guitars & more!

Excellent video. I am torn between the Jackson and the Gibson. I like the Gibson for it's cost and I already have an SG and LP Standard but will probabaly save and spring for a Jackson in the near future. The Jackson V's are just so perfect. I bought a used Jackson USA Select KV2 with LiveWires installed and I really enjoy it. I feel like it’s just as dynamic is my Seymour Duncan JBs but with an increased output for driving the amp. When swapping between passives and actives it’s important to they and ensure your maintaining an even input level. Those actives can overdrive an input easily. With all that being said, I feel like if you roll off the volume of the LiveWires you get the dynamics back.

The KV-1 and KV-Pro is are different. The KV-1 is USA and the headstock is a little larger plus the pearl Jackson name inlays. People can way what they want about the new Gibson V EXP models. They had has some manufacturing flaws. But, a USA made guitar with neck binding, ebony fretboard, pearl inlays, Dave Mustaine pickups and a hard case is a good deal at under 3k. When many guitars made in the USA with these details would be 4k plus.

I prefer the sound of the Gibson. I listened carefully for specific segments on each. I found the Jackson hot, but a bit muddy between lo-end and midsection; the ESP sounds weak, across the spectrum but especially on the lo-end; the Dean had a nice uniform sound but not exciting, which may have been the neck and your phrasing?; the Gibson was “clean”, if you know what I mean. That is, I could hear every string as you riffed through some barre chords. It just seemed like a McIntosh compared with a Marantz. Of course, I’m not there listening with you. However, on my device (a Samsung soundbar), my test was consistent between the test specimens. A very nice job at dissecting the different instruments. Maybe spend more time on build quality and neck tension, etc. keep up the good work!

I’m agree with you about the clarity of Gibson. It’s something different. But also playing through a plugin might be the reason of unsatisfying results of other guitars. Probably they're the equivalent of Indonesian or Korean Dean. But design-wise with dot inlays, round-ish lines around the body and string plate, and the Kramer logo with Megadeth font, I have to give it time. However, I'm a Jackson KV enthusiast more than Dave Mustaine's guitars so, it doesn't bother me unless there's a Jackson logo on the headstock. :D

I put Dave's Thrash Factor pickup in a King V Pro and it sounds killer, Rust In Peace qualities to the tone for sure. Makes me wonder how much different the sound actually would be between his Gibsons and a Jackson with the Thrash Factor...I suspect not enough to justify a $2000 purchase! lol

I absolutely love the Jackson tone, but it is too much small for my. I would stay with the ESP, (besides, the white version is one off the most beautiful guitars in the world). Dean is fine, but Gibson.. i dunno.. sounds Like they sell the name of the brand and the name of mustaine. Aweseme video, btw, you make a killer tone, i thought i was hearing Dave!!! Hi, great video comparison, please could you tell me if the neck of the ESP LTD DV8 has the same thickness than the Dean VMNT?? or maybe the neck of the ESP is a little thick against the Dean neck?

@@hubertalessandrofabbro6512 I think all of them are quite same but Jackson is a little bit thinner on the middle side, Esp is kinda similar, Dean is kinda chunky on the sides and Gibson is the same to Dean. But those are totally subjective, they’re %95 the same.

Honestly, I don't think they sound all that different. They're all solid guitars that look great. If I had to pick one I'd choose the Jackson, because it sounds the most versatile, with a richer/fuller tone that could be used across genres, sounds, and dynamics. As someone who likes different genres of music in addition to metal, I'd want something that can match me in that sense. Great video!

All right I know I had a beer so and here's a question I've been collecting guitars for like 20 years working a pawn shop, anyway my house wet up in flames that this Northern California Park fire and I grabbed five guitars on my way out,one is the king Pro-V Dave mustaine silver sparkle literally there's not a scratch on it all original.. what do you think it would go for? I can't find any online.. and obviously you're a super megadeth guitar geek,You seem the most experienced with all the Dave mustang guitars,, so what do you think bro..?I would totally appreciate your input.. Man, I felt sorry for you, I wish you the best about the tragedy you mentioned. About the KV Pro and it's price, it depends on the buyer instead of the seller. The genuine KV1s are going for 10 - 12K on Reverb. I'm also aware of the cheaper listing from 10 years ago but these days there are 2 - 3 listings online and all of them are nearly 10 grand. According to this, the KV Pro is another "limited" item and I saw lots of listings from 2-3 to 6-7K USD over time. Probably I wouldn't sell mine under 3-4K at least but if no buyer's okay to pay collector's price, you can request all you want but it won't happen. I recommend it's a discontinued item with increasing value over time. If you don't need cash asap, hold it, or if you need cash, try to sell another replaceable item. You know, I have a USA Select KV2 and this Mustaine, and in the time of need, I would sell KV2 first because it's from 2014 and I can purchase an equivalent KV2, even from the hands of the same builder. But since both the factory and endorsement are long gone, nothing can replace these KV Pro's. But the selling is unavoidable, I recommend you to start from 6-7 and decrease it if necessary. Hope it helps!

Sometimes when I'm drinking bad ideas sound like good ideas.. and considering it doesn't have a scratch on it... That's impressive for a flying v style guitar... And I've seen ones 4 or 5 years ago and they wanted three or four grand for one that had chips out of the headstock and the V points... I'd be better off working at McDonald's and saving this Jackson.... Dude, I’m using the Jackson with C standard tuning and the other 3 guitars were came out of nowhere. Then I couldn’t find a chance to replace the strings. I know it’s not the best but it saved the day.

I'm a Jackson guy but to be honest that new Gibson V has more mid range and it has a little bit more weight soudwise.But that inlays? I mean why?! I personally didn't like the Dean or Esp, they sounded over saturated when compared with Gibson & Jackson. It seems Mustaine did a great choice to switch to Gibson. I'm pretty familiar with that instrument couse Dave played a Jackson Y2KV in early 2000's which was almost same Gibson guitar he's using right now ( and Jackson lost the lawsuit against Gibson so they had to quit the Y2KV production). I see you collect Mustaine's Jackson's, so I suggest you to hunt for a Y2KV, the rarest of his all Jackson guitars. It may be a hard and expensive challange for you😅 Thanks for the comparison 🤘

A great comparison video it's hard to rate without playing the guitars but I'm gonna give it ago from listening and watching. Tone Wise I rate 1 Jackson kv is great classic Megadeth sound but surprisingly the new Gibson has an intense punch that just spews out the amp there's definitely more mid range in the pick up. They are both equal number 1. 2 I know you said you didn't like to play the Dean but from where I'm sitting it had a great tone. 3 last but definitely not least the dv8 esp . Still sounded amazing but just came through a little flat . Look wise 1 Jackson KV, it is pure metal you can't beat perfection. 2Dean angel of deth, killer graphics it just looks insane.a real show piece you would display on a wall.looks💯 3Gibson v, as metal guitar I wouldn't really lean towards an original v but I love the explorer headstock and the wood finish really suits the body.It looks like a guitar that is much more versatile and suited to other genres where as all the other guitar just scream metal. 4 esp dv8 the 8 ball inlay looks sick but personally I'm not a fan of the long fins,in saying that it still looks like an absolute beast but I prefer the others over it. Overall I own none of the guitars but would love to add any of them to my collection. I have had not so great experiences with Gibsons in the past(general stuff hard to keep in tune /intunation).so I'm a little weary . Good experiences with Jacksons . Dean little but the one I have played the little things haven't been taken into account such as filing the frets and paintwork a little sloppy. Esp never played a bad one in saying that only played Japanese made. If was to chose them to keep. 1Jackson Kv I'm a little biased when it comes to what Imagine a metal guitar should be and they tick everybox.looks killer and sounds even better But...... In saying that a close second surprisingly would be the Gibson 2 Gibson v ,it's sounds great has a real punch and some serious tone,the guitar looks super cool and like I said before very versatile style. Tone wise definitely equal with the Jackson but like I said I really love the look of the old school Jackson KV. 3 Dean angel of death what a machine if you own one of these hold on to it tight,one of the coolest guitar graphics ever and it sounds killer I don't like the dot on the inlays but I imagine that is for copy right reasons. Once again last but not least the 4 esp DV8 looks and sounds killer but compared to the other's I don't think it looks or sounds as good, personally not a fan of the long fins,pick guard,dot inlays but it's hard to judge from a KZbin video and with previous experiences with esp's in the past, I have only have good things to say. Gibson sounded worlds better but at 4-5x the cost of the others. Just wish they offered that prophecy configuration in the epiphone. Unfortunately you get b.s. pickups & electronics or you have to go with the ugly & noisy v tail piece of the classic epiphone v. I just got an ESP v-401 in burst and prefer it to the NOW horribly built Jacksons.

Mustaine is really showing his age playing an old man Gibson V. An ugly expensive guitar that just doesn't sound good. The king of his guitars will always be the Jackson King V, but the Dean with Rust in Peace graphic was pretty sweet.

Maybe it would be better if put all the content "on the paper" first and then make a vide or maybe film it in parts(every guitar has her own part) in multiple times when the speaking is good and then put it all together.. Sry just trying to be helpful..

For me I figure they're all going to sound the same and assuming they're built well (which we all know the Gibsons won't be😂) playability should be basically the same so for me it comes down to looks. Never liked the King V, I hate that V shaped plate for the string through, much rather a proper tuneomatic style bridge. Also hate every Dean guitar I've ever seen because the headstocks are so fucking ugly. So it's Gibson for me, but getting a good one is like winning the lottery. So I'm building my own. Already built one, came out about as good as Gibson would do it 😂, that's my prototype, going to build another now that should come out much better having learned a bunch. I've built cigar box guitars and cake pan banjos and a parts Telecaster, this was my first attempt at a proper guitar from scratch. I made a couple of changes too because I'm not Dave Mustaine and don't want or need his guitar.

Not enjoying his work is totally understandable but I think critisizing someone, who created a whole sub-genre and the roots of the most profitable metal band, after 40 years ago from his beginning just isn't cool. You know his impact is way above from just being a guitar player. We can find lots of them with breathtaking skill, but we won't remember the names of thousands of them after a swipe on Instagram not because their lack of skill but we have thousands of copies of everything in these days. The brand thing is whole another issue with lots of drama and business related stuff tho.
