Even the actual hardware will sound different from each other, very nice demo.

THIS! i feel like a lot of people forget that now. Every microphone, preamp, compressor, etc. will sound different from each other, especially when it comes to its condition, the year the gear was manufactured, etc. UAD is one of those very few companies that can get out the best of the vintage gear in the digital world (along with others like Kush, Plugin Alliance, Acustica, etc.). It’s a great time to be creative!

I got Slate Digital, Waves, Blue Cat, NI, etc. and I'm looking to get an Apollo Twin MK II, and some UAD plugins. I don't see where all of this brand loyalty is coming from. If we are mixing records, everything has something to offer. Something we may be working would sound good with a Slate plugin, and something else may sound good with a UAD one. Point is, use what works. If you have the luxury to be able to get all f these plugins from different companies, use them and enjoy.

You can argue all day about who's plugs are better. UA is amazing and I've always had great experience with customer support. I also love Steven Slate products, Kush, and Plugin Alliance. At the end of the day, I'm all in with UA because I think they have a solid reputation and business model even though they are expensive (and of course I love their plugins). If I was starting with nothing today, I couldn't argue with going to Steven Slate's monthly. Just do something and quit fighting over preferences.

Great song! As for the plugins, if UA would coast SO much is have much more of them. They're really good but really expensive, especially because they consume a lot of DSP that also coasts a lot.

+Diego Oliveira It's not all that expensive if you take advantage of their offers and sales. I got an Apollo Twin, Octo Satellite and all the UAD plugins I care for (about 50 or so). Cost me about $4k total.

Henrik Petersson You're right, Bro! But waiting for these sales, discount cards and Black fridays is not always an option. But if you can wait that's a good thing. For me never worked that well, I always bought the ones I have paying full price because I needed at that specific time, as I said they're great, and even though I'm an Apogee user I rely on some of this plugs to do things only them can do, like Ocean Way and Helios.

I keep looking at UAD-2 stuff. Out of my price range as is the majority of things but how could you not buy this system considering what it does. I think for most groups or bands that are starting to earn an income to invest in a card with 4 to 8 processors and buy plug-in bundles every 6 months or so, its a no brain er.

Really good stuff. ive found on comparistons with real gear that there is just a more aliveness in the topend with analog gear, a shine that kind of get outside the speakers. But i really like slates stuff, sounds equally analog to uad but cheaper, and u dont need extra hardware. Uad has more fun fx to choose from tho.

UAD plugins are great, but as I work solely on a laptop and travel a lot (I probably write / mix 80% of my work whilst travelling and out of the studio), I cannot experiment with these plugins whilst I'm travelling as you need to be connected to the hardware to process the software. I think this is a fundamental flaw as it's useless to me (and many others that work in a similar way to me of which the number will greatly increase as more powerful laptops enable more producers to leave the studio) as once I've recorded vocals / other instruments in the studio using the Apollo, as soon as I pack up and leave I can't take the UAD plugins with me, and it's often away from the studio where I have my moments of creativity. I can't take my Apollo and set it up on a train or a plane just to use the plugins, so essentially Universal Audio are chaining people to the studio, which I think is incredibly stifling. There must be a better way to do this, especially when people are paying up to £1200 for the desktop variant of the Apollo. UA claim that it's because the Apollo is powerful and can run the plugins, but as I and many others have for example; a 2017 15" Macbook Pro at it's highest configuration, running a few if not many plugins is not a problem.
In what way? You can't question the sound of their plugins, critically acclaimed by everyone. The only thing they are bad at is promising release dates that they tend to always miss. By months.

I don't question the quality of UAD's products, it's just the ethics of their business and their technical support. Avid is doing badly in this regard to. I think we're at a time now where it's not just about the quality of the product, but also the quality of the experience and the company itself. I have mad respect for Gregory Scott at Kush and Steven Slate (even if he is a bit "salesman" like at times) and their passion and dedication is truely transparent. UAD... terrible experience in every direction other than the sonic quality of their plugins lol. Needless to say, I won't be buying anything from them anymore, I don't care how good it sounds, they don't deserve my cash. Essay. Whoops. :P

Technically, you can do pretty much everything with the stock daw plugins.. But let's be honest guys.. that booty-lowend on that bass.. you'd need at least 5 stock inserts to come even close to this result he got... those uad plugins are sooo musical.. infact- i think the world doesn't understand really what they have done xD they have created tools, specificly for the use to create modern media. And these tools are more or less idiot-proof- made that way to rape the efficiency range which has ben standardized for Broadcasting to all of the many media devices in the world. From studio speakers to your iphone. And it will sound everywhere excellent. So if you want to do your Job right, and/or make your life easier.. sell a kidney and buy this son'a'beach :D

@reddvest6 жыл бұрын
jmac2050 that’s definitely a blanket statement. I’ve been mixing for 19 yrs and can tell you it’s the UNISON TECHNOLOGY that makes the difference doc. You just have to try it. I’ve tracked on neve 1073, mixed sessions recorded using those and the apollo stuff. Now hardware will always be better because of the saturation differences in comparison, but the Apollo is holding its own and doing great. It’s not some fad or gimmick. As Dave said, it just works.
@GabrielXDrums5 жыл бұрын
Redd Vest Levester White mixing for 19 years, I’ve been mixing for less and I can tell you it’s NOT the Unison technology, it’s your ears, but the Apollo gear HELPS, it doesn’t make the mix, just like I can play some intense drums on timbales as compared to my full kit I can mix a nice sounding track on stock as opposed to switching to my UAD setup, work minimally and then when doing big changes you’ll hear big results.
