Dave, I accidentally stumbled across your video on KZbin. Let me try to express the joy your video brought to me, as music is the most important thing to me, other than my first love, which is for God.

One of the most enjoyable theater organ presentations I have ever heard. I'm 86 and have been a life long fan of both classical & theater organ music. Thank you Dave & all the folks at Carma Labs who are responsible for this remarkable instrument. Please keep posting your concerts on UTube One slight criticism: Some of your 32' pedal is not too musical. Could it be voiced a bit softer?
@scottmusic242

I recorded this on my cell phone, so the frequency range of the phone may not be as wide as one would hope for on the low frequencies. Additionally, I am only about 25 feet away from the 32-foot pipes when I'm recording. Because of my short distance to the pipes, the sine-wave literally goes over the top of my head and also goes over the top of the microphone on my phone. As a result of being so close to the pipes, you won't hear the full tone on the lower frequencies unless you step back another 50-feet.

The Grand Master gets his hands on it. Excellent and a treat to see & hear. I still laugh at the video distortion on the low but heavy volume notes. Happens a lot. The Allen Organ video of Hector Olivera playing Bach's Passacaglia & Fugue in C-minor is crazy wavy. :)

For Dave to be able to play at all with all that's happened in the last year to his family is just incredible. Blessings on him and his family. I have a question about that plastic seat cover: why is it on there?
@scottmusic242
@scottmusic242 4 жыл бұрын
Hi...funny story about the plastic on the organ bench. Before the concert, Dave asked me if we had a plastic bag laying around. I asked...WHY? He said he wanted to put it on the organ bench because he didn't want to wreck the bench. I asked him to explain. He said that Virgil Fox (I think that is who he said) used to ruin the stained finish on organ benches due to sweating and sliding around. I told him he didn't need the plastic. He insisted!

Was Dave involved in the tonal creation of this particular instrument? If not, he must have a 6th sense about what ranks and percussions are available to use on the Carma organ to reproduce his Musical Memory!! Like many very talented keyboardists, the music lives forever in their bodies and minds! Blessings. Fantastic!!
@scottmusic242
@scottmusic242 Жыл бұрын
Dave was not part of the organ "creation" team. Century Pipe Organs are the builders. Jelani Eddington designed the console and also has done a lot of voicing and tonal work. There are other numerous important people that helped with the voicing, building, and maintenance....like Zach Frame who is one of our organists in local residence.

The organ is more like an analog synthesizer! It can create just about any instrument or sound! I hope it's going to be installed in some venue where people, someday, can enjoy the great sound! Too bad the organ wasn't seriously miced up, even for demoing. I could see mics being placed around various areas and mixed to create some awesome stereo sound! Right now sounds like the built-in microphone in the camcorder! Bummer.

I've listened to so many Jesse Crawford 78rpm records I didn't even notice until quiet passages when a very noticeable amount of hiss was present. I'm really about fidelity too and I agree with you though. I do however prefer the fidelity of 1930's orchestral backed pop music the fidelity it was recorded with.
@scottmusic242
@scottmusic242 4 жыл бұрын
This was actually recorded on my cell phone. The mic that you see isn't there to record or enhance the music...it is there for someone who sang along with the organ...and it was just the mic and a speaker on the floor so the people in the back could hear the singer. There are NO speakers connected to the organ. It is 100% air moving through pipes and the rest is the traps and drums...controlled on the organ console.

There are KZbin videos, part One and Part Two of a "Sociable" Mr. Wickerham did on the Carmex organ. While it did not have, say, 16 mics .... it does sound wonderful. look for it. It is stereo and decent mics were utilized.

@scottmusic242
@scottmusic242 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is any way for me to post the specs in youtube. Currently, today, 9-21-2020, there are 92 ranks playing. In addition to that, 4 more unenclosed ranks have been installed and will be wired in about a month. After that, 2 more 16-foot unenclosed ranks are waiting to go in. In a few months, we will be at 98 working ranks. We already have them, it's just a matter of completing their installation.

Can this organ play I feel for U by Chaka Kahn?
@JonasClark
@JonasClark 4 жыл бұрын
Theatre organs were designed to play popular music of their day. The ones reinstalled in pizza parlors are often used to play today's pop music-- and (depending on the organist) some songs are more successful than others. I'd wager that particular song (which, incidentally, I like, and has a great typically-80s video) would be very difficult to put across nicely on an organ. I'd say "Ain't Nobody" could be done well.
