Just got the boss sd 1 the other day,super disappointed,the metal zone has ALOT more gain in it,i may try to sell the sd1 to a friend,her husband plays guitar,zakk wylde used the sd 1 to push the preamp in his marshall 2203 and i watched a bunch of videos and not one person said this pedal is for pushing the pre amp in tube amps,oh well,ill keep my metal zone til it dies,then I'll get the mxr fullbore metal oh and btw? That thing is a f'n beast!

The SD1 is a boost pedal. Keep it. You either get the amps gain where you like it best then kick on the SD1 or if you’re using a good distortion pedal and have it set where you want it, then you kick the sd1 on with it as well. As a boost pedal, you’d want its volume up all the way, gain ALMOST down all the way and the eq knob where ever your ears like best. As an overdrive, it basically magnifies the gain you’re already using. Great pedal to have.
