Lyrics:
Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days
Sometimes it feels like this world's gone crazy
And Grandpa, take me back to yesterday
When the line between right and wrong
Didn't seem so hazy
Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may?
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away?
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days
Grandpa, everything is changing fast
We call it progress, but I just don't know
And Grandpa, let's wander back into the past
And paint me the picture of long ago
Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may?
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away?
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days

Hey friends! Thanks so much for the overwhelming response to this song. For all of you dealing with loss, my heart goes out to you. I only wanted to put this song out as a reminder to the world how family values used to be so important. What I’ve received in return other than amazing support, is stories of people who are missing a loved one. I’m so grateful for all the stories of love that y’all are sharing on here. I encourage you to read other comments and help each other out. None of us are alone here. Maybe we can take this small opportunity to love one another. It’s a safe place that only a special few will prolly ever see. If you feel like sharing this song with someone who might need it, I’d also be eternally grateful. I could use your help to reach more people. SPREAD LOVE LIKE PEANUT BUTTER

Hey y’all, my family!! I am so proud to share this. I loved this song as a kid. And it means even more to me now. This song isn’t really about grandpa...it’s about how far we’ve strayed from the simple, good values that the previous generation represents. I long for the days where we loved more than we fought. I love this song. I hope you do too. SLLPB Ps. This is my wife, mom, and dad in the video. They were troopers. Haha

Amazing job, brother. My momma was from Lufkin...she would’ve loved your voice. My granddaddy (her dad) was a guitar player, she was a pianist, and I myself am a bassist. So I would be so bold to say that Lufkin produces some musical talent! Keep that good stuff coming, brother. Oh and go have some Lufkin BBQ and tell me how awesome it is! Love that joint!

My daughter danced with my dad to this song at her wedding. Back story, he had a stroke 5 years ago & refused to work with rehab, until my daughter came to visit and he got out of bed and started trying to walk again, working with rehab to one day be able to dance at her wedding. This song combined with his pure joy in his eyes as he stood out of his wheelchair to dance with her had the entire room in tears. Thank you for such a beautiful song.

She was non-verbal and bed ridden for the last 5 years of her life. He never left her side and she never left their home. They were married for 67 years at the time of her passing. I met the man I call my Grandpa when I was about 10 years old. He married my Grandma and really took his role as a grandparent to heart. I remember him telling me and my brother stories of when he was my age and bagging his first deer, the first time he taught me a song to play on guitar, eating deer meat for breakfast with him and grandma, and spotting all the critters around the property, and many more memories. On my 11th birthday, he gave me my first guitar, and he is the reason why I became a musician and eventually a guitar builder. This year, he won't be able to see me turn 29, after passing away a few months ago. I miss you, Grandpa. I can only hope to live up to your example.

My grandfather was a foreman on the oil fields of west Texas. He was a quiet man most of the time and was sick the last few years of his life. The thing I remember the most about him were his fishing trips he used to take me on and the stories he gave me to hold on to. They weren't just stories. They were life lessons and advice for later. He knew that then. I didn't realize that until I was older. Thank you B.W. Pruitt. Miss you so much.

What's funny about "the good old days" is that those of us who are older lived through them and didn't even know it. Its like going outside to play with your friends for the very last time and never knowing it.
@DADVICETV

@@tribesecurity928 I tried to explain that to my kids a and they don't get it. Having grown up in the military, I look back now and there were so many "last times" that I didn't know until after they had happened. I'd love to see a country song about that - it would certainly pull at the heart strings.

@@DADVICETV Yeah no kidding. I think Gen X was the last of the real "good old days". Since the turn of the Century there will never be those days again. Omg 🤗 you nailed this perfectly. Your voice and style took me back to hanging with my Opa (Dutch for grandfather). He passed New years day 1996 after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer . I spent up to Christmas eve with him playing his favour music while oma (grandmother ) chewed his ears off 😂 whinging about how loud he was playing it and I (16yrs old ) spat my dummy for the first time ever at an adult , I said "how bloody dare you tell my opa what to do, he's dying so just let him have his goddamn music for once in his life , please just shut up today .. 😂 opa was possum eyed as I turn up the old record player , louder and louder it got and the last song he played for us was drumming up a storm by Sandy Nelson and my love of drums and deeper tones was born. 😅 .. Thank you for your song today it definitely warmed my heart for my heavenly Angel. ❤ who past new years day a week after my final visit due to getting pneumonia after getting his butt stuck in his swimming pool 😊 yep he was still rebellinh drinking Heineken and smoking his pipe. Around 2016/ 2017 I was experiencing paranormal activity around my home while dealing with extreme domestic violence that almost cost my life and just prior to fleeing I was recording in the dark and on playback I saw a face in my lounge in the back rest. I knew his face instantly.. he was watching over me. So this song is just perfect 🤗 love my protective Guardian Angel ❤.. so so very much.

To anyone listening to this and feels the feels and emotions of this song, we’ve got hearts. Big hearts. My papa, my grandpa, and my best friend was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I spent my childhood with him, every weekend, holidays, and days off from school. We worked together and he gave me my work ethic that I carry today. I am so grateful and proud to be a part of him. And it breaks my heart to see him in the way that he is. I recently lost my other grandpa, papa Jim. And it was hard to be around him and see him deteriorate. Then because of COVID I had to say goodbye to him as he took his last breath via FaceTime. It was not easy, it tore me up. But I know he’s in a better place. He’s not in pain and not struggling. And that’s something I hold close to my heart. So for my papa that’s still here I will always be there to hear your stories. With the Alzheimer’s, it’s hard to have a conversation. But, when your telling stories about the good ol days he can come back to himself and talk for hours. And one thing I’ve learned about Alzheimer’s is that story time and music are a huge factor to bringing their mind at ease and giving that sense of connection. Love you papa!! And to anyone out there with loved ones experiencing Alzheimer’s or dementia please try music and talking about “back in the day” it’s over whelming how they can change and react... Even for a moment.

Dave, you're right. Family values or moral values for that matter, should never be forgotten or go unpracticed, especially these days. Neighbors used to love their neighbors, and a man's word was his bond. At least that is how it was growing up in East Texas. I guess the ways of yesterday are easy to forget in today's world, but we sure thank you for trying to remind us with a song; an awesome rendition I might add! May God bless you and that awesome voice of yours. Please keep singing and trust us when we say, "we're listening!"

The evening after my mom died, I walked onto my back patio and in my yard were so many dragonflies fluttering all around.. never before that evening had I even seen them there. Dragonflies were moms” thing “, she even had them tattooed on herself. I believe it was mom visiting my that evening saying Hello,I love you and I’m all right.. free of all that ailed me.
