My rankings, based mostly on re-watchability as an adult and what still holds up for me (I grew up on these movies for reference): 1. Shrek 2 (Fairy Godmothers rendition of I Need A Hero alone makes this number 1 lol) 2. Shrek (the humor...top tier) 3. Prince of Egypt (top tier I listen to the soundtrack frequently) 4. Spirit (first movie to make me cry as a kid lol and i was somwhat a horse girl) 5. Road to El Dorado (gorgeous movie and the jokes still land) 6. Chicken Run (this feels like a low placement but I haven't seen it in years but I do remember it being great) 7. Sinbad (charming but mostly background movie 8. Shark Tales (dated but has this charm that I still enjoy) 9. Antz (haven't watched in years and can live without it)

I really love Shark Tale as a “so-bad-it’s-good” movie. Martin Scorsese is legitimately the best character here. He’s much more sympathetic, and he is the best part of the movie. In fact, the acting in the movie is great and it just makes the movie funnier, even if it’s ironically funny.

Animation, soundtrack, voice acting, special effects. 2) Road to El Dorado: I've owned it in every media format since it's release and frequently re-watch it! love the humor, the music, and the characters. But as much as I unironically love this one, I HAD to give POE my #1 spot. 3) Shrek 2 : A perfect sequel, the sigh...."Empire Strikes Back" of animation. . Prince Charming and Fairy Godmother made for memorable villains. 4) Ants : I liked it more than "A Bug's Life". There, I said it. 5) Shrek : If Shrek 2 had not existed, this would have worked just fine as a stand-alone entry. But Shrek 2 just did everything bigger and better, and Id argue has aged better than the 1st. 6) Sharktale : I don't hate it. As with Antz, I'll say I found it more humorous than its Disney counterpart "Finding Nemo" which I'm sorry, was just too slow paced for me. Maybe I just happen to like stupid humour. 7) Chicken Run : Liked it but a bit dark for my taste (no chicken pun intended!). Not something Id be in a hurry to re-watch. 8) Sinbad : I am aware that it's technically impressive but just was never interested in the subject matter. Then again, I didn't care much for the Disney analogues "Treasure Planet" and "Atlantis" either. maybe I just don't care for seafaring adventures genre in general? 9) Spirit :sigh...I'm sorry. I just don't care for horses. (Except for Altivo from my #2 pick, "El Dorado". Shrek: Animation still holds to this day and good story. 4). Prince of Egypt: Stunning animation and brings the story of Exodus to life. 5). The Road to El Dorado: Animation is stunning even with the CGI and music to me is very good. 6). Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas: Animation is good along with the CGI and the story is good. 7). Shark Tale: The story to me is good, the music is slightly killer (good) and the animation isn't that bad. 8). Antz: The story overall is good and the animation is still good. 9). Chicken Run: Seems like a good movie, but not interested in watching it.

My Ranking: 1. Spirit - not the best Dreamworks movie, but it is my FAVORITE. A simple story with a lot of emotions. The scoring is one THE BEST in a film. I can talk about this movie all day, we can put a pin on this conversation... eventually. 2. Prince of Egypt - one of the boldest movie to come and probably the best adaptation of a biblical story. I know the story in the bible and watching the movie years later, its a really great movie and probably the best Dreamworks movie. 3. Shrek - A huge iconic film. Its funny, emotional, humorous and iconic to the core. The whole splitting up and misunderstanding is kinda stupid, but the reveal is pretty wholesome so I don't mind. 4. Shrek 2 - I remember not liking this as a child, but years later its clear why everyone loves it. Be a Hero and Livin' La Vida Loca is a jam to listen to. It's still not up there for me 'cause I really hate the "pretending to be someone else" story which is why (out of topic) didn't like 'Your Name' that much. Much like that movie, giving it a 7/10. 5. Road to El Dorado - Probably one of the most underrated film on this list. It's one the most humorous and funniest, but the story is just the main problem from holding back true perfection. Not a bad time overall. 6. Chicken Run - I LOVE EVERYTHING IN THIS MOVIE. Except the story... the whole liar reveal is just stupid, but other than that its a decent film. 7. Antz - Cant really tell if this is a good movie or a bad movie. There are some good stuff in it, but boring at times. I guess its just 5/10 average film. Might change my mind on rewatch. 8. Sinbad - I remember this film being beautiful but not good at the same time. I remember how bored I was when watching this film as a child. Made me ALMOST not to watch the anime Sinbad 14 years later for that reason alone. 9. Shark Tale - The true worst film of Dreamworks and almost everyone can agree on how bad it is. But at least we can meme about it 20 years later. I'm not really mad not of its existence honestly.

My opinion: 1) The Prince of Egypt (Easily the best NOT Disney movie ever made) 2) Shrek 2 (The Definiton of a sequel better than the first) 3) Shrek (Extremely funny movie with a beautiful story) 4) Chicken Run (I consider it Aardman's Magnum Opus, and just love every character) 5) The Road to El Dorado (I love the two protagonists, and really enjoy the animation) 6) Antz (I like to consider it an adult version of A Bug's Life) 7) Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (Stellar animation and a beautiful story of freedom) 8) Joseph: King of Dreams (A really enjoyable movie, with solid song and good animation) 9) Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (Visually extraordinary, but poor on the narrative side) 10) Shark tale (Extremely cringe movie, expecially compared with Finding Nemo) Except for the two last position, I love every movie of this era.

So I’m definitely not a part of the majority in terms of what my favorite of this era is, but here’s how I’d rank them (also counting the 2000 direct to video Joseph: King of Dreams): 10: Shark Tale (So unabashedly terrible that it becomes ironically enjoyable, 3/10) 9: Joseph: King of Dreams (Just felt like a flaccid and lifeless Prince of Egypt, 4/10) 8: Chicken Run (A fun escape movie bogged down by a liar revealed story that I couldn’t get into, 6/10) 7: Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (Engaging pirate movie with a cast of characters I didn’t particularly care for, 7/10) 6: Shrek (Very well-written and biting in humor, but I wasn’t a fan of Farquaad and how he was treated as a punching bag just for being short, 7/10) 5: Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (A master of visual storytelling weighed down by Matt Damon’s unnecessary narration and Bryan Adams’ middling soundtrack, 8/10) 4: Antz (Very effective in its adult themes and has a larger-than-life scope, 8/10) 3: Shrek 2 (An amazing sequel that ups the ante of its predecessor and fires on all cylinders, 10/10) 2: The Prince of Egypt (A stunning work of cinematic beauty that needs no explanation, 10/10, my second favorite from the studio) 1: The Road to El Dorado (A smartly written and exceedingly funny buddy comedy with an amazing soundtrack and beautiful animation, 10/10, my favorite from the studio)

A rare Disney/Pixar and Dreamworks collaboration in the Oscars at 2:06. Yes I do agree - Shrek 2 comes out as the best film in Dreamworks' first era. It retains the feel - if not better - of the first film and is the most superior of the Shrek franchise. The first gives us an introduction of Shrek and Princess Fiona, while the second takes it to another level - Puss in Boots, Harold and Lilian, The Fairy Godmother and Prince Charming, just to name a few. I don't really watch Dreamworks' traditionally animated films, because I felt that no one does it better than Disney. Dreamworks' traditionally animated films are OK in general, though not much Broadway than Disney. Maybe you should do a poll someday on which film is better - Dreamworks' Shark Tale or Disney's Chicken Little. I would love to share my opinion.

9:03: The Prince of Egypt (at #4) is ranked too low. I just rediscovered it, and it's a banger on every level. A few seconds later: well, now I might actually need to SEE Joseph: The King of Dreams. Never bothered with it because of my prejudice against direct-to-video animated fare, but maybe I should give it a look. Okay, I'd forgotten Chicken Run was Dreamworks as well as Aardman. I'd been saying that Dreamworks has yet to give us an outstanding movie with a female protagonist (which is why it bugs me that some people seem to want the upcoming Ruby Gilman to fail), but I guess I needed my memory jogged. Ginger is one of my favorite animated heroines, ever. I can only rank the movies from this era that I've seen (I've skipped some of them): 1. The Prince of Egypt 2. Chicken Run 3. Shrek 4. Shrek 2 And way, way down at the bottom of the list, where I wish I could bleach the memory of it out of my brain: Shark Tale. I will say this for Shark Tale, Jack Black seemed to be the only person not phoning it in his role, which is almost a practice run for his live action role in the cult film Bernie, and the closest he's ever come to an Oscar nomination. But, speaking of Oscars, boy, Oscar+Will Smith=Uh Oh.

Spirit needs to be re-released without Matt Damon's voice track. The story was told beautifully through the visuals.

Is quite ironic that my favorite Dreamworks movie is Chicken run. But no prob, their best and at the same time their magnum opus is and will remain The prince of Egypt

Sorry, I’ll only be covering the movies. Not only does it feel a little unfair to rank feature films against entire series of television, I simply do not have the time to watch every single episode of every single series. It took me long enough to watch 40+ movies.

To me the original Shrek will be around for a long long time. If I ever have grandkids or heck even great grandkids they will be watching it. I think the sequel was technically a bit better, but you cannot best the original. It will be around for generations. I haven't seen in awhile, but may give it a see again soon.

I think Shrek 2 and Shark tale are part of the second era since they have the 2004 logo instead of the 1997 logo.
