Exploring Muscat After Dark / Everything You Need To See & Eat

Muscat is the capital of Oman and it is a city filled with culture, history, entertainment and of course, food! As we always say, there is nothing like visiting a new city with a local and this is exactly what we did with our friends from MyTour Oman.

To make this guided city tour even more interesting, we went for a night time Muscat visit. Keep in mind that most gulf countries, including Oman are so hot during the day that their cities are quiet during the day and very active in the evening.
Our tour started on top of Muttrah at the Muttrah Fort for sunset which was simply stunning! We even had a great view of the Sultan's Yacht, one of the largest privately owed yacht in the world.
We then did a quick stop at the Royal Palace before heading for a walk around the Muttrah Souq. Souqs are always so interesting and this one was no exception. You could find anything from spices, silver, traditional dresses and toys to delicious food and just so much life.
Finally, to end the night, we went for a traditional Omani meal at Ali Thani Restaurant composed of mainly rice, chicken and fish. We truly enjoyed the flavors of Oman.

Does Kenya have history with Oman? Tell me more! Haha I know that Zanzibar was the second capital of Oman back in the days and they they kicked the Portuguese out of Tanzania. Zanzibar also still have a huge Omani community but what about Kenya? :)

@@DaveMani Lamu and Mombasa were stop over points for those heading to Zanzibar and as a result a lot of the Swahili culture (from food to weddings to architecture) is similar to Omani culture (you know Kenyans had to put a Kenyan twist to it 😀). Esp Lamu and old town Mombasa.

Zanzibar was once the capital of Oman. Some families especially in Mombasa, such as the Mazruis and Busaidys are from the Omani royal clan, and moved to East Africa as governors etc
