Exploring a Decommissioned Coal Mine - Ostrava, CZ

I attended TBEX (Trave Blog Exchange) in Ostrava, Czech Republic and was provided with a bunch of tours to show me the interesting things about the city and the region. The first thing I did was take a mining tour to the biggest mining museum in Czechia. It's in Landek Park on the outskirts of Ostrava.
First, they took us down into the mine in the elevator used by the miners themselves. Our guide told us much about the mining process, the tools that were used, even operating some of the modern machinery used to extract the coal.
The 2nd part of the tour taught us about the rescue workers for the mines and what they had to go through to keep everyone safe. The ginormous fire extinguishers were really eye-catching to me. They let me try the obstacle course that the rescue workers were trained in, basically climbing up and down stairs and ladders and crawling through tight spaces.
To end the tour, they showed us the changing room. Hundreds of clothing articles literally hanging on chains from the ceiling. It looked like something from a horror movie.

I remember going on a trip to a mine in Wales once and they did the same trick with the lift floor number haha! It is a pretty sobering experience going in an old mine and seeing the small space they used to work in! Looked like a great tour with plenty of info! Thanks for sharing!

It's not a the type of tour I'm normally interested in, but this city depended heavily on mining so I wanted to learn more about that.
