Hi Dave, super nice... :-) is there any chance that you could reveal your amp/pedal settings? is it pure reverb or do you also use chorus? Thanks for the videos.. :-)
Hi Dave thanks for sharing.. could you also reveal the settings for your chorus and reverb? :-)
@DavePriceGuitarist8 жыл бұрын
+Lars Flaskager I couldn't tell you the exact settings but Chorus at around 50% & a plate reverb (I think) at around 10%.

Wow great detailed lesson on one of my favorite Luther Vandross songs!! I especially love how you broke down the fills and showed how they were derived from the chords. So excited that I finally found someone who also teaches R&B songs! With such an overwhelming amount of guitar teachers on youtube it's hard to believe no one teaches popular R&B songs. So glad I found you and hopefully you keep bringing us more. Also couldn't figure out that Emin7 inversion you were doing in what seemed like the 3rd position so I used the 2nd position and or 7th position instead. Also definitely going to check out your website as well. Thanks for posting this and keep up the great work! :-)
@DavePriceGuitarist9 жыл бұрын
+jrvisions Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. If you tell the time point in the video that will help me narrow it down. I think what you are seeing is just a G triad xx543x. You can think of Em7 as a G major triad with an E in the bass. Cheers
@jrvisions9 жыл бұрын
+Dave Price Yes that's it! The Em7 @ 18:28. Thank you for clearing that up for me. :-)
@DavePriceGuitarist9 жыл бұрын
+jrvisions You are welcome. I should add that at that point I am also playing the open 6th string E.

Great lesson Dave cheers! Was wondering what pickup you're using for this? Also do you usually only use one pickup for this style of guitar playing? cheers
@DavePriceGuitarist7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark. I mainly use the neck pickup for this sort of playing. It depends on the track, I have used all 5 Strat positions on various tunes. They all have their uses.

Awesome breakdown. What you've called an 11 chord I've always called a sus 9 chord. Are they the same?
@DavePriceGuitarist3 жыл бұрын
Cheers! Yes you could call it that. That particular voicing goes by quite a few names. Interval - wise it is just root, b7, 9,11. You could also name it as a slash chord. For example an A11 chord be labelled G/A.

Another two thumbs way up from this humble guitar enthusiast and fan.....can you enlighten us on what kind of sound augmentation you've got working for you here.....sounds like a flange or chorus turned way down.....maybe a little delay? What are the one or two most valuable pedals to have to use in type of music you play.....funk/R&B/dance, etc?
@DavePriceGuitarist4 жыл бұрын
Denny Libertario Thanks Danny. There’s a chorus effect on this track. Effects wise I use a compressor and modulation (chorus or flanger) the most for this sort of style.
@johnmaer4 жыл бұрын
@@DavePriceGuitarist Thank you for sharing your effects recipe or secrets for this style/track. Let me sneak in a suggestion for another funk artist from the past that I'd love to see your work in developing a guitar "how-to". You may know of her....haven't checked your site. But I really get a charge of the arrangements/guitar in Evelyn "Champagne" King tunes like "Love Come Down" or "Shame". If you haven't already, check her out. Kudos and be well, Dave.

@@DavePriceGuitarist There are many attempts at covers of Cray's Right Next Door online, but most of the players don't quite get it right because of execution issues and missing/skipping the opening chord. Curious on what your take on that tune might be, Dave.

Also.. I have found, to make it slightly easier instead of the double stop up at the 14th and 16th frets, if you want it simpler then you can do the same thing on the B & E strings at the 10th and 12th frets respectively. Just for ease of movement. Thanks.
