@joelbizzell1386
@joelbizzell1386 3 жыл бұрын
It's odd. How logos strike such a strong chord. Like...we don't really notice them, but on a subconscious level we do. And once they change, they never feel right again. My girlfriend is in her early twenties, and I am in my mid thirties...so am no stranger to bittersweet nostalgia, but she is just hitting her first wave, pointing to a early 2000s Mellow Yellow ad and getting the "awww, remember that" feeling. But she still stares at me blankly when I tell her about the mountain logo...with the sunset. 😅

I saw Austin Powers 2 in theaters, when I was 15. It was a choice between that or Wild Wild West. Cowboy steampunk is one thing, but I think I made the right choice. Going to the movies, either by myself or with a friend was a fun thing to do on any given weekend when I had nothing else planned. But about 10 years ago, tickets got expensive, went less and less. Streaming video and then quarantine killed the movie theater ( video killed the radio star)

Based on widespread availability of high-speed internet and relatable humor through expansion of memes in the last decade I'd say we never lost our sense of humor. And people usually do get along as long as some people don't view others as less than human and undeserving of basic human rights and decency.

@Hyperskreem 82 tl;dr: CNN didn't do shit, the internet has forced people who don't give a shit about anybody else to have to listen to everybody else. People were insulted by a lot of stuff back in the day, you just didn't have the internet to form large groups and you really couldn't do anything about it since there was no way you could seriously be heard by more than the few people around you and maybe a classified in the news paper. The advent of social media gave everybody a worldwide platform for good and for bad. CNN didn't decide people needed to be offended by anything, they already were offended. They were pissed off for decades with no meaningful way to communicate their anger, their outrage. Saying somehow CNN made people "a pussy" is like saying video games, movies, and/ or music somehow turned people into violent murderers. Prior to the internet giving people a voice, you could create an entire movie where you just called somebody a faggot the entire time and you know who's gonna complain? A lot of people, but who are they gonna complain to, the town gazette? You're sitting here complaining on a youtube video showing 90's commercials, and as of this, 4 people liked your comment. And that's 4 more people than would have given a shit about what you said before. It'd have just been forgotten to time. But due to the more permanence of the internet, your comment will likely outlive you. CNN... Seriously, of all of the stupid takes on something I've heard. Don't be offended by any of this, lest you just be a pussy who can't handle criticism of a stupid idea like that.

Remember when email was a fairly new concept? When you got VHS and your rich friends got DVD? When the worst thing the president did was get a hummer? When PS1 was the cutting edge of realism? When Comedy Central was worth watching? Such simple times. I'm sad now. If anyone needs me I'll be on the front porch in my fucking rocking chair.

That Best Buy commercial reminds me of when I was an engineering intern in 99 and they had a digital camera that used a 3.5" floppy to record images. You could get like 10 pictures on a disc and it took like 3 seconds after you took the picture to record the image...lol
